Death Of Rhyen Hicks, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Sunday 7th June 2026, of Mr Rhyen Hicks, No. 12 Kickham Place, Mullinahone, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his beloved uncle Rob; Mr Hicks passed away peacefully, while in the care of staff at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny City, Co. Kilkenny, surrounded by his heartbroken family.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family;loving partner Sally, children Kadey, Farrah, Hugo and Hunter, latter the centre of his world, parents Philip and Debi, stepson Paul, brothers Richard, Rhys and Rheo, sisters Nicola and Abbey, grandmother Val, uncles, aunts, sister-in-law Stacey, godchild Harper Jane, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and many friends including Rachel, Remi, Michael, Andre, Tyler, Liam, Rory, Kaya, Mollie, Jordan, Corey and Jonathan, whose friendship meant so much to him throughout his life.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr Hicks will repose at Brett’s Funeral Home, Mullinahone, Thurles on Wednesday afternoon, June 10th, from 5:00pm until 7.00pm same evening.
His remains will be received into the Church of St Michael, Mullinahone, Thurles, on Thursday morning, June 11th, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:30am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Killaghy, Mullinahone, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Death Of John Carey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death, today Monday 8th June 2026, of Mr John Carey, Newtown, Drombane, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his parents John and Josie Carey, sister Josephine and nephew Gary; Mr Carey passed away peacefully at his place of ordinary residence, surrounded by his loving and devoted family.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; loving wife Mary, daughters Hannah, Irene, Shauna and Caitriona, son-in-law Kevin Bourke, Jack Hill (Irene’s partner) and Darragh O’Rourke (Shauna’s fiancé), Grandsons Keelan and Tadhg Bourke, brothers Jim, Tom, Paddy, sisters Mary, Noreen and Bridie, mother-in-law Rita Lowry, sisters in laws, brothers in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, neighbours and wide circle of friends.

His remains will be received into the Church of St Mary, Drombane, Thurles (Eircode E41 T880) on Wednesday morning June 10th, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:30am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in Upperchurch Cemetery, Upperchurch, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Death Of Mossie Hayes, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Sunday 7th June 2026, of Mr Maurice (Mossie) Hayes, Ballyduff, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his parents Alice and Ned, Mr Hayes sadly passed away, while in the care of staff at Bród House, Co. Kilkenny.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; loving brother Eamonn and sister Oonagh, sister-in-law Bee (Maher), brother-in-law Ger (Holliday), niece Elaine, nephews Edmund and Cathal, cousins, extended relatives, friends and carers from the Aurora Community.

The earthly remains of Mr Hayes will repose at his home in Ballyduff, Thurles, (Eircode E41 CF62) on tomorrow afternoon Tuesday June 9th from 4:30pm until 7:00pm, before being received into the Cathedral of the Assumption, Cathedral Street, Thurles at 8:00pm, same evening.
Requiem Mass for Mr Hayes will be offered on Wednesday morning, June 10th at 11:00am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in St Patrick’s cemetery, Moyne Road, Lognafulla, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Road Closure Notice: Liberty Music Festival 2026, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Tipperary County Council has confirmed a temporary road closure in Thurles to facilitate pedestrian access for the upcoming Liberty Music Festival 2026.

Roads Closed:
L-4201 Emmett Street and Thomond Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary

Closure Period:
From 00:00hrs on Saturday, 4th July 2026 to 00:00hrs on Monday, 6th July 2026

Alternative Routes:
Traffic travelling north on the N62 will be diverted to Liberty Square to join the N75 east and continue their journey.

Traffic travelling west on the N75 will be diverted into Liberty Square, turning left onto the N62 to continue their journey.

The closure is being put in place to safely facilitate pedestrian access to the Liberty Music Festival.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow all diversion signage in place.

Killea, Co. Tipperary Fun Day & Margaret O’Sullivan Féile 2026.

Step back in time and enjoy a wonderful day of tradition, music, dancing, games and community spirit at Killea Sportsfield on Sunday, June 21st, 2026.

The village of Killea, nestled in the shadow of the famous Devil’s Bit, will once again celebrate the much-loved Killea Fun Day and Margaret O’Sullivan Féile in true old-fashioned style.
The day will be officially opened by the Thomas MacDonagh Pipe Band from Templemore, setting the tone for a colourful afternoon of entertainment for all ages.

A major highlight will be the National Sheaf Pitching Competition for the Rory O’Dwyer Memorial Cup, held in memory of the late Rory O’Dwyer of Currabaha, Borrisoleigh, Thurles; latter a legendary sheaf pitcher and great friend of the organising committee. Competitors from all over Ireland are expected to take part, making this a very special occasion.

There will be music, song and dance throughout the afternoon, including Irish dancing, set dancing, figure dancing and the ever-popular Sean-nós dancing, a traditional style known for its intricate footwork and body movement. Members of Killea Comhaltas and talented musicians, singers and dancers from across Mid Tipperary will help create a lively and welcoming atmosphere.

The fun begins with a tractor run at 12 noon, returning to Killea Sportsfield, followed by a packed programme of more than 30 events from 1:30pm to 5:00pm.

Attractions on the day will include:
Sheaf pitching, sheep racing, dog show, pony rides, stock judging, skittles, darts, horseshoe throwing, pillow fights, penalty taking, face painting, bouncy castles, music, dancing, children’s entertainment and much more.
Children will be admitted free of charge, and face painting, bouncy castles and music will also be free, making it a fantastic family day out.

A local celebrity will judge the Elegant Lady Competition, while visitors can also enjoy a shop, canteen and barbecue on site. Homemade treats will include locally baked confectionery, pancakes and traditional Irish Colcannon, prepared by the local ladies committee.

Proceeds from the day will support local community groups, including Killea National School, Killea GAA, Killea Tidy Villages and Killea Community Centre.
