€10 Million Fund To Assist With Energy Poverty.

A €10 million fund to help struggling families and individuals on pay-as-you-go energy tariffs, is to be signed off by Government, as part of a new energy poverty action plan.

The Minister for the Environment Eamon Ryan will seek Cabinet approval for this new action plan, which will include the establishment of a financial support fund.

The money will provide further safeguard for people at risk of energy debt, including, but not exclusively, pay-as-you-go and electricity customers.

However, for those of you who received your electricity bills this morning, expecting to get a promised €200 discount; these customers received only a government electricity discount of €183.49, with €16.51 having been already siphoned off, to be returned back to government coffers in the form of VAT, deducted at the rate of 9%.

Meanwhile, it would be interesting to know the costs associated with over 60 public lamp standards remaining lit, 24 hours each day, since last April, here in Thurles, also being funded by the silent, accepting tax payer.

‘Republic Of Work’ Set To Open New Co-Working Hub In Tipperary.

**‘Republic of Work’ offices on South Mall, Cork City.**

Co. Cork’s popular co-working hub, ‘Republic of Work’, is to expand; locating in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, thus offering a much-needed solution to Ireland’s fast growing and emerging flexible working quandary.

This first co-working hub outside of Cork city, is expected to open in January 2023, with the team hoping it will encourage people living in Clonmel to ‘stay local‘, rather than having to commute daily or relocate to reside in costly accommodation in Irish cities, in order to work.

‘Republic of Work’ first announced their plans for the Clonmel hub last October on social media and will now hold an open day on Thursday December 15th next, [10:00am to 5:00pm] at the hub on Clonmel’s Dr. Croke Place, to give locals a chance to meet its members and discuss how the new space will operate into the future.

‘Republic of Work’ was first established in Cork city five years ago with a hub situated on South Mall, one of the main streets of Cork city, running from Grand Parade in the west to Parnell Place in the east.

“Banshees of Inisherin” – Eight Nominations Ahead of Annual Golden Globes.

Kerry Condon, Colin Farrell, Barry Keoghan and Brendan Gleeson have all been nominated for top awards ahead of this year’s annual Golden Globes ceremony.

The awards are expected to be televised and hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael, on Tuesday January 10th, 2023.

Note: Brendan Gleeson and Kerry Condon are no strangers to Thurles, Co. Tipperary, with the latter named, born and educated here in our Cathedral Town.

Colin Farrell will compete for ‘Best actor’, while Barry Keoghan and Brendan Gleeson will compete against each other for ‘Best Supporting Actor’.
Our very own Kerry Condon, not suprisingly, will compete against Angela Bassett; Jamie Lee Curtis; Dolly De Leon and Carey Mulligan, for the title of ‘Best Supporting Actress’.

Director Martin McDonagh [Remember “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”] was nominated in the ‘Best Director’ category.

The Banshees of Inisherin, the most nominated title this year, is also up for best score, best screenplay and best picture.

Everything Everywhere All at Once, (Absurdist comedy-drama film written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert).

Triangle of Sadness, (A satirical black comedy film written and directed by Ruben Östlund, featuring the late Charlbi Dean, who passed away in August last, 2022).

“The Banshees of Inisherin“, story tells of a pair of lifelong friends, on a remote Irish island, (set on the Irish Arran Islands), who find themselves at an awkward period in their relationship, when one of them no longer wants to be friends with the other.
Pádraic (played by Colin Farrell), latter an affable and kind man living on a fictional remote island known as Inisherin, suddenly has his world seriously shaken when his former close friend Colm (latter played by Brendan Gleeson), chooses to cut off their previously enjoyed, lifelong friendship.
What begins as a minor squabble between both of these former old friends, soon sends shockwaves throughout their small close-knit community, thus causing everyone, from Pádraic’s sister Siobhán (Played by Thurles born Kerry Condon) to the local parish priest, to inquire as to the cause of Colm’s sudden active hatred.

Death Of Patrick Purcell, Formerly Of Loughmore, Templemore, Co Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Sunday 11th December 2022, of Mr Patrick Purcell, Gortnadeeve, Creggs, Co Galway / Co. Roscommon border, and formerly of Tinvoher, Loughmore, Templemore, Co Tipperary.

Mr Purcell sadly passed away at his place of residence, following a long illness most bravely borne, and while in the loving care of his partner Aileen.

His passing is most deeply regretted and very sadly missed by his devoted partner Aileen, his brother John, sisters Mary O’Sullivan and Eileen O’Dwyer, nieces, nephews, his carer Constance, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Requiescat in pace.

A cremation Service will now take place at Shannon Crematorium, Illaunmanagh, Shannon, Co. Clare, on Wednesday December 14th, 2022, at 12:00 noon.
