Death Of Mai Ward, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, on Wednesday last, 19th October 2022, of Mrs Mai Ward (née Purcell), Walthamstow, London and formerly of St. Ita’s Terrace, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her parents Thomas and Mary Purcell, her sisters Phil and Kitty, brothers Eddie and Donal, sister-in-law Ann; Mrs Ward passed away peacefully, in her 90th year, while in the care of staff at Whipps Cross Hospital, London.

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her loving husband Ted, sons Desmond and Vincent, sister Essie, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Rail Works Affecting Thurles Train Services This Halloween Holiday.

Major rail works, currently being undertaken, are expected to bring disruption to train journeys this coming Halloween Bank Holiday weekend.

Due to a series of track and signalling works taking place, Iarnród Éireann have warned customers that a revised timetable will come into effect this October Halloween Bank Holiday weekend, and those expecting to travel, using the service, are being advised to book in advance.

These major works will be taking place, affecting Cork, Kerry and Limerick services, from Saturday afternoon to Monday morning.

The line between Portarlington and Thurles will be closed from 14:30 on Saturday.

All services between Dublin and Cork, Kerry and Limerick will be part-replaced by bus transfers, thus resulting in this revised schedule.

Note: Services between Cork and Dublin (Heuston) will operate on a revised schedule, with bus transfers between Thurles and Kildare set to operate in both directions.

People are being asked to please check time schedules before making essential journeys with full details to be shown online at www.irishrail.ie.

Direct services between Limerick and Dublin (Heuston) are cancelled. Journeys between Limerick and Dublin Heuston, involving a change at Limerick Junction, will have bus transfers between Thurles and Kildare, in both directions.

Direct services between Tralee and Dublin (Heuston) will operate as follows:

Saturday: 17:05, Heuston Station, Dublin to Tralee will operate between Mallow and Tralee only.

Sunday: 08:30 Heuston Station, Dublin to Tralee will operate with bus transfers between Thurles and Kildare. Commuter services between Portlaoise and Dublin Heuston will involve bus transfers between Portlaoise and Portarlington in both directions.

Irish Rail apologise to their customers, in anticipation of any inconvenience brought about by these essential repairs and updates.

Death Of Rev. Fr. James Stapleton (C.S.Sp.), Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday, Sunday 23rd October 2022, of Rev. Fr. James Stapleton, Congregation of the Holy Ghost and of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, (C.S.Sp.), Kimmage Manor, Dublin and formerly of Kylemakill, Moyne, Thurles, Co. Tipperary; Missionary in Ireland, Ghana, Sierra Leone and the USA.

Pre-deceased by his parents Jim and Catherine; the passing of Rev. Stapleton is most deeply regretted by his brothers and sisters; Billy (Kylemakill), Nellie Ryall (Kilmanagh, Co. Kilkenny), Paddy (Thurles), Kathleen Devaney (Thurles) and Josephine Connaughton (Thurles), sisters-in-law Berri and Ann, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grandniece, cousins, extended relatives, neighbours, Spiritan confrères (Spiritan colleagues) and many friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Rev. Stapleton will repose for Requiem Mass in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Whitehall Road, Kimmage Manor, Dublin, at 11:00am on Wednesday, 26th October, followed immediately afterwards by interment in Dardistown Cemetery, Collinstown Cross, Old Airport Rd, Dardistown, Co. Dublin.

“Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover” ~ Warns Tipperary’s Molly O’Connell.

“Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover”, written By Stephen Hamilton, is the latest new single from that very talented Tipperary vocalist Ms Molly O’Connell.

The fast rising Co. Tipperary country singing star, began singing on stage first at the age of 6 years; winning her first Munster Final Fleadh at the tender age of 8 years and her first All-Ireland in Scór at the age of 14 years.

She has continued to wow audiences over the years, with her renditions of Country, Folk, Ballad and Traditional songs.

Molly hails from Kilcommon village, Thurles, County Tipperary and developed her passion of performing, from her now sadly deceased father Denis, who played the button accordion and sang in a well-known band, “The Mellow Tones.”

The youngest daughter of a family of five siblings; music and song were an integral part of “The O’Connell Family”, and growing up in such a musical home enabled her to become familiar with all the songs performed by the greatest and most famous of all time Country Singers.

Death Of May Power, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today, Monday 24th October, 2022, of Ms Mary (May) Power, Beechwood Grove, Thurles, Co. Tipperary; formerly Dwan’s, Kickham Street, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and Mardyke, Killenaule, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her brother Matt and sisters Lizzie, Josie and Martha (Mealy); Ms Power passed away, in her hundredth year, while in the care of staff at the Community Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her loving nieces, extended relatives, friends and by Catriona, Dennis and all of the Dwan family.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Ms Power will repose at Kennedy’s Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Lognafulla, Thurles on Tuesday evening, October 25th, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm, before being received into the Cathedral of the Assumption, Cathedral Street, Thurles at 7:45pm.
Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning, October 26th, at 11:00am, followed by interment immediately afterwards, in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co.Tipperary.
