Thurles Detective Gardaí Renew Public Appeal.

Detective Gardaí, at Thurles Garda Station, are continuing their investigations in relation to a burglary which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, October 22nd, in the Slievenamon Meadows area, off Davis Road in the town.

A blue gents bicycle and a pair of beige/grey ‘ecco’ shoes were located nearby.

Death Of Phil Lyttleton, Formerly Gortagarry, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday, Saturday, 5th November, 2022, of Mrs Philomena (Phil) Lyttleton (née Hassett), Iona Drive, Rathnapish, Co. Carlow and formerly of Gortagarry, Toomevara, Co. Tipperary.

A retired Deputy School Principal (Holy Family Girl National School, Askea, Co. Carlow), Mrs Lyttleton passed away peacefully while in the care of staff at the District Hospital, following a long illness most bravely borne. .

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her husband Gerard, children James, Tomás, Gemma and Oliver, brothers Tom, Pat and John, sister Mary, brothers-in-law Donal and Liam (Jones), sisters-in-law Patricia, Josie and Theresa, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Requiescat in pace.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Lyttleton will repose at R. Healy & Son’s Funeral Home, Pollerton Castle, Rathnapish, Co. Carlow on Monday evening, November 7th, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
Her body will be received into the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, College Street, Graigue, Carlow, to further repose for Requiem Mass on Tuesday morning, November 8th, at 10:00am.
Following Mass, interment will take place immediately afterwards in Bennekerry Cemetery, Longwood, Co. Carlow.

Death Of John Coman, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday, Saturday, 5th November, 2022, of Mr John Coman, Shanbally, Moycarkey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Mr Coman sadly passed away, while in the care of staff at the Community Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

His passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving wife Mary, adoring family Isabel, Tara, Paula and Breda, sons-in-law Liam, Arnaud, Pat and Matthew, loving grandchildren, brothers Eamon, Joe, Vincent and Paul, his sisters Carmel, Joan, Una, Teresa, Geraldine and Dolores, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

His body will be received into the Church of St. Peter, Moycarkey, Thurles, on Tuesday morning, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:30am; followed by interment immediately afterwards in nearby St. Peter’s new cemetery, Moycarkey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Fireworks Cause Distress To Feathered Friends, Farm Animals & Pets.

Although firework displays on Halloween night no doubt bring joy to many of our local residents; it is likely to be a night of terror and distress for our feathered friends, farm animals and household pets.

Here in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, following such a recent fireworks display, ducks on the river Suir and our flock of Pied Wagtails roosting on Liberty Square, are now only beginning to return to their old haunts.

Research has confirmed that firework displays cause wild birds to suffer significant distress, and researchers have recommended that in future displays should not take place in areas, with a large wildlife population.

It is unclear whether it is the noise that upsets them, or the flashing lights in the sky, or indeed a combination of both. However for example, researchers have confirmed that the heart rate of geese increases from 63 to 124 beats per minute, and their average body temperature increased by 3%, from 38C to 39C, when they are subjected to a firework display close to their usual haunts.

We are already aware that fireworks cause anxiety in our household pets, and farm animals; for example dogs and horses.
