Death Of Jim Hennessy, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, on Thursday 13th November 2025 of Mr James (Jim) Hennessy, Cormackstown, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his parents John and Elizabeth, brother David, sisters Bridie Kearney and Sr Hilary; Mr Hennessy passed away peacefully following a short illness, while in the care of staff at Tipperary University Hospital.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; loving wife Kathleen, sons John, Kevin and Brian, daughters Geraldine (O’Sullivan, Boherlahan) and Brenda (Dempsey Bouladuff), grandchildren Liam, Michael, James, Ben, James, Cormac, Claire, Aoife, Siobhan and Fiona, daughters-in-law Annmarie, Geraldine and Deirdre, sons-in-law Mick and Paul, brothers Pat (Hospital, Co. Limerick) and Noel (Dundrum), sisters-in-law Mary, Genevieve, Agnes and Sheila, extended relatives, former colleagues in AFT and An Teagasc, neighbours and friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr Hennessy will repose at Hugh Ryan’s Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles, (Eircode E41 CP59) on Monday afternoon, November 17th, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm same evening.
His remains will be received into the former Cistercian Monastery Abbey, at Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary on Tuesday morning, November 18th, at 11:30am, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 12:00 noon, followed by interment immediately afterwards in the adjoining graveyard.

In Our Hands – Preserving Thurles Cathedral, Co. Tipperary.

In memory of the late Sally Willoughby, a beloved member of the Thurles community, who greatly cherished the Cathedral of the Assumption. Her family are delighted to present a limited-edition series of 20 wooden nature prints, celebrating God’s flora and fauna.

Each print is beautifully wrapped and ready for Christmas gift-giving and all 20 prints are being sold from tomorrow, at the Thurles Cathedral Parish Centre, with 100% of proceeds going to the “In Our Hands – Preserving the Cathedral” campaign.

Death Of Margaret Power O’Gorman, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, on Tuesday 11th November 2025, of Mrs Margaret Power O’Gorman, Monastery Close, O’Donovan Rossa Street, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly ‘Margaret’s Alterations’, Abbey Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and Carrickbeg, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband Denis (O’Gorman) and her mother-in-law Ann (Mc Galey); Mrs Power O’Gorman passed away peacefully, after a short illness, while in the care of staff at Tipperary University Hospital.

Her passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sorrowing family; loving son David (Mc Galey), grandson Josh, daughter-in-law Kati (Schlingloff), extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Pre-deceased by his parents Norah and Tommy, brothers Paddy, Mick, Frank, Joe and Bill, sisters Josie (Molumby), Nell (Hayes), Kath (Grehan), Mary (Callahan) and Bríd (Gooney); Mr Gooney passed away peacefully, while in the care of staff at the Community Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; loving wife Irene (Cooke), son Paul, daughter Elizabeth (Ryan), grandchildren Heather, Kristian, Abby and Anna, daughter-in-law Letitia, son-in-law Sean, brother Ollie, sister Betty (Fogarty), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Tipperary..

New Cohort Of 194 Garda Recruits Sworn In at Templemore, Co. Tipperary.

An Garda Síochána has today welcomed 194 newly attested members to the organisation, following their graduation at the Garda College, Templemore, bringing the total number of sworn gardaí nationwide to 14,481.

The new intake includes 137 men and 57 women, with 18 recruits born outside the State, representing England, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Scotland, South Africa, and Wales.
A further 17 Garda Reserve members; 13 men and 4 women, were also formally sworn in.

Of the 194 newly attested members:
87 will be assigned to the Dublin region
39 to the Eastern region
47 to the Southern region
21 to the North Western region

Meanwhile, 365 Garda recruits (Intakes 252 and 253) continue their training programme at the Garda College, in Templemore.

The next intake, (Intake 254), consisting of over 220 Garda trainees, will enter the Garda College on Monday next, November 17th. This will bring to approximately 800 the number of Garda trainees who commenced training during 2025.
