It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Saturday 27th January 2024, of Mrs Ester O’Meara (née Long), Ballycahill, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Pre-deceased by her husband Paul, sister Eileen and brother Francis; the passing of Mrs O’Meara is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by her sons Jimmy, Billy, Frankie, Martin and Paul, daughter Julianna, grandchildren Caitlin, Cathal, Aoibheann and their Mam Mary Ellen, Kyla, Roisín, Diego, Briaín, Shónagh, Ódhran, Aislinn, Lúsai, Stephen and Lauren, brothers Willie and Dan, sisters Bernie and Dolores, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, son-in-law Pat, daughters-in-law Anne-Marie, Lili and Carolyn, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Funeral Arrangements.
The earthly remains of Mrs O’Meara, will repose at Kennedy’s Funeral Home, Castlequarter, Borrisoleigh, Thurles, [E41 VX81] on Tuesday afternoon from 5:30pm until 7:00pm, before being received into the Church of St. Laurence O’Toole, Inch, Munroe, Bouladuff, Thurles same evening.
Requiem Mass for Mrs O’Meara will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 11:30am, followed by interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Bouladuff, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

There is no right or wrong way to feel, following the loss of a friend or relative, through death or otherwise. You may think that you will grieve less or cope better with the lapse of time. It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Friday 26th January 2024, of Mrs Eileen Barrett (née Danagher), Crohane, Ballingarry (South Riding), Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Killenaule, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
In her 92nd year, pre-deceased by her loving husband Liam and sister Kathleen; Mrs Barrett passed away peacefully while in the care of staff at the Padre Pio Nursing Home, Holycross, Thurles.
Her passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by her daughters Breda (Quirke), Dolores (Bourke), Helen (Linnane), Yvonne (O’Sullivan), Laurie (Kirby), sons Seán and Michéal, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, adored grandchildren and great grandchildren, her close cousins Séan (O’Brien) and Michael (Danagher), sisters-in-law Helen (Tynan) and Josie (Fitzgerald), nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

The earthly remains of Mrs Barrett will repose in the home of her daughter Dolores, at Monslatt, Killenaule, Thurles (E41 KR53) on Tuesday afternoon, January 30th from 4:00pm until 8:00pm same night. Her remains will be received into the Church of St. Mary, Bailey Street, Killenaule, Thurles on Wednesday morning, January 31st, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:30am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Drangan Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Friday 26th January 2024, of Mrs Margaret Bracken (née Comerford), Ryevale Lawns, Leixlip, Co Kildare and late of Templetuohy, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Mrs Bracken passed away peacefully, while in the care of staff at Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, Mill Rd, Abbotstown, Dublin after a long illness, bravely borne.
Her passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by her family; loving husband Gerry, son David, daughter Kate, sister Bridget (Mulcahy), brother Jerry, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Her funeral cortège will leave her home at 10:30am to be received into the Church of Our Lady’s Nativity, Old Hill, Leixlip, Co. Kildare, on Wednesday morning, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:00am, followed by interment in Confey Graveyard, Confey, Newtown, Co. Kildare.

Today, Saturday January 27th the United Nations General Assembly designated this date January 27th; the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a time to remember the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and the millions of other victims of Nazi persecution.
The Holocaust was the genocide of European Jews during World War II. Between 1941 and 1945, Nazi Germany and its collaborators systematically murdered some six million Jews across German-occupied Europe, around two-thirds of Europe’s Jewish population.
The murders were carried out primarily through mass shootings and poison gas, in extermination camps, chiefly Auschwitz-Birkenau, Treblinka, Belzec, Sobibor, and Chełmno in occupied Poland. Only a few Holocaust perpetrators faced criminal trials.
Sadly, at this present time here in Ireland and indeed world wide, we are witnessing the alarming rise of anti-Semitism. Indeed it is now more important than ever for us to recognize the critical lessons of Holocaust history, as we commemorate, today, the victims and honour those who survived.
