Death Of Tommy Butler, Ballytarsna, Co. Tipperary.

It was with sadness that we learned of the death yesterday, Tuesday 30th April 2024, of Mr Tommy Butler, Ballytarsna, Cashel, Co. Tipperary.

Mr Butler passed away peacefully at his place of residence.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; brothers Michael, John and Willie, sisters Ann and Josephine, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr Butler will repose at Devitt’s Funeral Home, The Green, Cashel, Co. Tipperary, on Friday afternoon next, May 3rd, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm same evening.
His remains will be received into the former Cistercian Abbey Monastery Church, at Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, to further repose for Requiem Mass on Saturday morning, May 4th, at 10:30am, followed by interment in the adjoining graveyard.

It was with sadness that we learned of the death today, Tuesday 30th April 2024 of Mrs Nora Fitzpatrick (née O’Dwyer), No.2 Gleann Rí, Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, and formerly of No.11 Talbot Park, Boherlahan, Cashel, Co. Tipperary.

The passing of Mrs Fitzpatrick is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sorrowing family; loving husband Jim, son Alan, daughters Tara, Elaine and Tracy, grandchildren Rebecca, Katie, Rubie, Emma, James, Myia-Rose and Méabh, sons-in-law and partners, brothers Willie, Rodgie, Tom, John Joe and Paddy, sisters Peggy, Nancy, Mary, Josie, Kathleen and Pauline, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Her funeral cortège will be received into the former Cistercian Abbey Monastery Church, at Holycross Thurles, Co. Tipperary, on Thursday morning, May 2nd, at 11:30am to further repose for Requiem Mass at 12:00 noon, followed by interment, immediately afterwards in Holycross graveyard, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Message: The above identified batch of Ecosana Copa Teff Bio (Organic Teff Flakes) is being recalled due to the presence of tropane alkaloids. A recall notice has been emailed to online shoppers.
Tropane alkaloids are naturally occurring plant constituents found in a variety of plant species. Plants produce tropane alkaloids to protect themselves from predators (e.g. insects). Contamination of food can occur if parts (mostly seeds) of tropane alkaloid containing plants are unintentionally harvested with agricultural crops.

Nature Of Danger: Symptoms can include a change in heart rate, decreased salivary and sweat secretion, pupil dilation, dizziness, headache, nausea, hallucination and disorientation.

Gardaí At Nenagh, In North Tipperary, To Host Property Marking Event.

Gardai at Nenagh in North Co. Tipperary will host a ‘Property Marking Event’ at Arrabawn Homevalue premises, latter situated at Tyone, South of Nenagh, on Wednesday next, May 1st, between the hours of 12:30pm and 3:30pm.

High Court Judge May Impose Custodial Sentence On Circuit Court Judge.

A former fifty-nine-year-old Circuit Court judge, who was also a former Dublin Secondary School Teacher; a Solicitor and a Thurles Fianna Fáil local District Councillor, is expected to be sentenced on May 29th next, having been found guilty of the sexual abuse/assault of six young men, some 30 years previously.

Mr Gerard O’Brien, a Thurles native, with an address at the Old School House, Slievenamon Road, Thurles, Co Tipperary, was earlier found guilty by a jury, in 2023, of one count of attempted rape and eight counts of sexual assault, in relation to the six unnamed complainants.

These offences are understood to have taken place in Dublin, between March 1991 and November 1997. Mr O’Brien was a secondary school teacher and aged in his late 20s and early 30s at that time, while the unnamed complainants were his students or former students. Latter were aged between 17 and 24 and are now aged in their 40s and early 50s.

Former barrister and now a Judge of the High Court since 2019; Mr Justice Alexander Owens has stated that it was likely he would impose a custodial sentence on Mr O’Brien and has asked for a report from the prison service about how they can meet Mr O’Brien’s needs in prison, in view of his obvious disabilities.

Mr O’Brien was born with the rare congenital condition, known as Phocomelia, which has resulted in him being born with no arms and only one leg; same injuries brought on by the congenital anomaly of the drug Thalidomide, brought into prominence as a characteristic side effect of the use of the drug thalidomide, used during pregnancy.

Mr O’Brien had initially denied all the allegations against him, but following the guilty verdict, he conveyed his resignation to the President in accordance with the requirements of section 6 (2) of the Courts (Establishment and Constitution) Act 1961, in early January of this year.

Mr Justice Alexander Owens has today questioned if the school could have done more to protect their students.
