Man Charged Following Location Of Cannabis Growhouse In Tipperary

A man has been charged following the seizure by Gardaí of suspected cannabis herb in Tipperary, worth an estimated €125,000 .

As part of Operation Tara, Gardaí arrested the man, after having raided a house in a rural area situated between Nenagh and Toomevara on Friday last, February 11th, 2022.

During their search, Gardaí discovered what they describe as a sophisticated grow house in the attic of his home, with the area containing 17 cannabis plants, with an estimated value of €13,600.

Continued searches revealed a further four sealed buckets, containing sealed vacuum packed cannabis herb, with an estimated value of €112,000.

Pending further analysis; in total €125,600 of the suspected herb was seized at the dwelling.

The arrested man, understood to be in his early 60s, was taken from the scene to Nenagh Garda Station and detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

He has since been charged and is expected to appear before a special sitting of Tipperary District Court this morning, Monday, February 14th, 2022.

Death Of Nora Ryan, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday, Saturday 12th February 2022, of Mrs Nora Ryan (née Fogarty), Kilvilcorris, Drom, Templemore, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Rathcannon, Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband John, infant daughter Mary and brother Tom; Mrs Ryan passed away peacefully while in the care of staff at Aut Even Hospital, Kilkenny city, Co. Kilkenny.

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her loving sons Matt and PJ, daughter Hanora, daughters-in-law Lucy and Dympna, grandchildren Jane, John, Rachael, Paddy and Aoife, sisters Kitty (Moore), Nancy (Dunne) and Breda (Collins), brother John, sisters-in-law, Nita, Anne, and Mary, brothers-in-law George and Willie, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbours and friends.

Requiescat in Pace.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Ryan will repose for Requiem Mass in the Church of St. Mary, Drom, Templemore, on Tuesday morning at 11:30am, followed by interment immediately afterwards in the adjoining graveyard.

For the many persons who would have liked to have attended Requiem Mass for Mrs Ryan, but are unable to do so, due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic; same can be viewed online HERE.

Irish Heart Foundation To Benefit From Brennan’s Bar Raffle, Liberty Square, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Patrons and the owners of Brennan’s Bar on Liberty Square, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, are pictured hereunder presenting the sum of €1,020 to the Irish Heart Foundation, following their raffle of a signed picture of Rachel Blackmore.

Pictured from left to right: Eileen Bourke, Ellen Carey, Cllr Sean Ryan, Liam McGuire, Joan Brennan, Catherine Fogarty (accepting cheque on behalf of Irish Heart Foundation), Mary Jo Fanning, TP Sheehan, Pat Brennan, Kathleen McGuire and the two young men at the front are Bill Hackett and Peter Melbourne.

This story is about more than a raffle and a generous donation however.

Patron, Mr Liam McGuire collapsed in Brennan’s Bar, situated on Liberty Square, Thurles, shortly after he had entered the premises in June of 2019.

Bill Hackett and Peter Melbourne (pictured above) had just completed training in how to use a defibrillator and they jumped into action using the defibrillator, obtained from The Arch Bar next door.

Michael Fogarty, well know Thurles artist was also on the scene and did trojan work to assist.

Joan Brennan, a retired nurse kept everyone calm as aid was rendered and an ambulance was able to take Mr Liam McGuire to hospital.

Liam has since made a full recovery and is delighted to be able to contribute €1,020 to the work of the Irish Heart Foundation.

Death Of Helen Fallon, Formerly Thurles Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday, Saturday 12th February 2022 of Mrs Helen Fallon (née Corbett), Dominic Street, Portumna, Co. Galway and formerly of Ballingarry, South Riding, Thurles Co. Tipperary.

Mrs Fallon passed away following a short illness, borne with dignity and courage, while in the care of staff at Galway Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.

Her passing is most deeply missed by her adoring husband Gerry, daughters; Geraldine, Edel and Helen, son Martin, adored grandchildren Joe and Rìan. sons-in-law, Pat Quinn, Adrian Molloy and Enda D’Arcy, nieces, nephews and especially her godson Pat Fallon, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, extended relatives, wonderful neighbours and loyal friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Fallon will repose on Tuesday evening, February 15th, at Dignity Funeral Home, Portumna Retirement Village, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
The funeral cortège, bearing the remains of Mrs Fallon, will leave her home on Wednesday morning February 16th. Same will take the route via Patrick Street, before being received into the Church of St. Brigid, Portumna, Co. Galway, at 10:45am to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:00am, followed by cremation at Shannon Crematorium, Illaunmanagh, Shannon, Co. Clare at 2:00pm.

Death Of Mary B. Culliton, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday, Saturday 12th February 2022, of Mrs Mary B. Culliton (née O’Gorman), Mountmellick, Co. Laois and formerly of Mullinahone, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband Tomás and well known in many circles including Teaching, Comhaltas, ICA, Pro-Life, Credit Union, Foróige, Girl-Guides/Scouts, Sliabh Bloom Association, Laois Heritage Society, Laois Tourism and other activities; Mrs Culliton passed away peacefully at her place of residence after a very short illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her immediate family, Kathleen, John, Margaret, Tracy, Anne, David, Sinéad, Eoin and Gráinne, her sisters and brothers, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Culliton will repose in Moloney’s Funeral Home, Sarsfield St, Ballycullenbeg, Mountmellick, Co. Laois, this afternoon, Sunday February 13th, from 3:00pm, with recital of The Rosary this evening at 6:00pm.
Removal will take place from her home on Tuesday morning at 10:30am to be received into the Church of St. Joseph, Sarsfield St, Ballycullenbeg, Mountmellick, Co. Laoish, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:00am, followed by interment immediately afterwards in nearby St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Cloncosney, Mountmellick, Co. Laois.
