Oh, happy carillon and bells of my youth,
By the river Suir now sounding!
How near and how dear to my heart’s truth
In quiet moments never-ending.

By Cathedral bells’ sound,
One day I was born,
Amid musical sounds of a river
That sings in my heart,
In moments forlorn,
And in my happiest moments ever.

To play and to school,
My life was to rule,
By the bells and the river determined,
By green banks and bridge,
By the Ursuline school,
My earliest life was thus fashioned.

And, however, how often,
I may wander away,
Be it near or far over the ocean,
I shall hear in my mind,
The bells peal and play,
Their carols of happy emotion.

Carolling, carolling , carolling ever,
Always in tune with the song of the river,
Oh, bells of my heart and my home now ringing,
Ever and ever sweetly singing.

Failure To Empty Thurles Clothes Pods Highlights Basic Administration Failure.

It is the August Bank Holiday weekend here in Thurles, Co. Tipperary and once again the towns Clothes Pods are packed to capacity, proving the towns administration has learned very little, from the same situation which occurred on the May Bank Holiday weekend, earlier this year.

However, it should be noted that one improvement has thankfully occurred; with someone from within the Thurles Municipal District officials having being identified as being able to spell. (See pictures hereunder).

***“Sewing the seeds of sustainability”*** (See HERE) has now been corrected to *“Sowing the seeds of sustainability”* **on all signage**, **at the expense of the taxpayer**.

The ‘Clothes Pods’ previously provided at Aldi (Kickham Street) and Thurles Swimming pool (Cathedral Street) have both been removed, for some reason, over the past number of months, thus adding to the lack of recycling space being provided.

Surely someone on the ground, e.g. Thurles Traffic Warden etc., could be instructed to report on a daily/weekly basis. in an effort to correct this major issue, in a town which plays at encouraging tourism.

Death Of Martin Horan, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday, Friday 2nd August 2024, of Mr Martin Horan, Tullagreine House, Fermoy, Co.Cork and formerly Drangan, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Mr Horan passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, while in the care of staff at the Bon Secours Hospital, College Rd, University College, Cork, Co. Cork.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; wife Nancy (nee Brennan), sons Keith, David and Paul, adored grandchildren Andrew, Peter, Amber, Sarah and Kevin, brothers Gerry and Andy, sisters Lily, Maura, Kathleen, Sheila and Angela, daughters-in-law Amanda and Susie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr Horan will repose at his home, Tullagreine House (P61 NP76), on tomorrow afternoon, Sunday August 4th, with visitation from 5:00pm until 7.00pm same evening.
His remains will be received into the the Church of St. Patrick, Fermoy, Church Square, Fermoy, Co. Cork, (P61 N446), at 12:00 noon, to further repose for Requiem Mass on Monday, August 5th, followed by interment immediately afterwards in Kilcrumper New Cemetry, Ballyvoskillakeen, Co. Cork.

Minister Humphreys Announces Almost €1 Million For Tipperary Projects.

Major investment in sports clubs, community centres, parks, walking trails and playgrounds.
Funding for the purchase of buildings and vehicles for community use.
Focus on making our towns and villages more vibrant places to live, work and visit.

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Mrs Heather Humphreys TD, has today (Friday, August 2nd 2024) announced €16.5 million to deliver 185 community projects across the country, 16 of which are in Co. Tipperary.

This major investment will support a diverse range of projects such as upgrades to sports facilities, community centres, parks, walking trails and playgrounds.

As part of the initiative; funding is also provided to support the purchase of buildings and vehicles for community use.

Speaking today, Minister Humphreys stated: “I’m delighted today to announce €16.5 million for 185 projects right across the country. This major investment, under the Community Recognition Fund, will support the upgrade of sports facilities, community centres, walking trails, parks, playgrounds and so much more. The projects are diverse in nature – demonstrating the fact that communities have different needs. All the projects being funded today are designed to bring communities together and make them more vibrant places to live, work and visit. This investment is just the first of a number of tranches that will be announced under the Community Recognition Fund over the coming months.”

She concluded by stating “This is about giving back and saying ‘thank you’ to communities, for what they do week-in, week-out. I look forward to seeing the positive impact that this funding will have on the ground in communities all across Ireland.”

Death Of Maureen O’Meara, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death today, Friday 2nd August 2024, of Mrs Maureen O’Meara (Nee Maher), Church View, Bohernanave, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband Ned and granddaughter Leah; Mrs O’Meara passed away peacefully, while in the care of staff at University Hospital, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. .

Her passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sorrowing family; sons Eddie and John, daughters Catherine (Carroll) and Lisa (Hanley), grandchildren Rebecca, Adam, Katie, Michelle and Brooke, sons-in-law Thomas and Michael and life long friend Eric, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

The earthly remains of Mrs O’Meara will repose at the home of her daughter Lisa, Abbott Court, Holycross, Thurles, on Saturday afternoon, August 3rd, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm same evening.
Her remains will be received into the Church of St Joseph and St Brigid, Bohernanave, Thurles on Sunday morning, August 4th, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 10:00am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
