New CSO Crime Figures Show Mixed Trends In Quarter 1, 2026.

The Central Statistics Office has released its Recorded Crime figures for Quarter 1 2026, covering incidents recorded in January, February and March.

The figures show a rather mixed picture. In the 12 months to Q1 2026, recorded crime incidents fell in 6 of the 15 main offence groups. The largest decreases were seen in Homicide & Related offences, Sexual offences, Burglary & Related offences, and Robbery, Extortion and Hijacking offences.

However, some offence groups continued to rise. The largest increases were recorded for Dangerous or Negligent Acts and Weapons & Explosives offences.
The report also highlights an increase in victims of Assaults & Related offences. Female victims rose by 8% to 2,460 in Q1 2026 compared with Q1 2025, while male victims rose by 1% to 3,334. Overall, victims in this category increased by 4% to 5,794.

The CSO also advises caution when interpreting fraud figures. Current published figures for Fraud, Deception & Related offences include only incidents directly reported to An Garda Síochána by members of the public and recorded on the PULSE system. Certain referrals from financial institutions are still excluded while work continues on reporting and recording systems.

These statistics are important because they show recorded crime incidents, not necessarily the full level of crime in society. Some offences may be under-reported, particularly crimes such as fraud, sexual offences, and assault.

Irish Government Launches Survey To Support Children’s Voices In Family Law Proceedings.

The Irish Government has launched a new survey for professionals who prepare Voice of the Child and Welfare Reports in family law proceedings.

The survey will gather important information on professional backgrounds, qualifications, training, experience, and the skills needed to carry out this work. The findings will help inform the development of a future Panel of Assessors, aimed at improving access, consistency, regulation, and standards in the preparation of these reports.

This work forms part of the Irish Government’s continued focus on placing children at the centre of the family justice system, ensuring their voices are heard, their welfare is protected, and their individual experiences are properly considered in legal proceedings that affect them.

The survey follows the June 2024 review of expert reports in the family law process, which made 20 recommendations to improve quality, oversight, consistency, and best practice in Voice of the Child and Welfare Reports.

Professionals currently preparing these reports are encouraged to complete the survey and contribute to shaping future policy in this important area.

Death Of Joe Joe Brennan, Loughmore, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday Friday 26th June 2026, of Mr Joe Joe Brennan, Curraghmore, Loughmore, Templemore, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by his beloved son David, parents Joe and Eileen, parents-in-law Richard and Else, and brother-in-law Richard jnr;Mr Brennan sadly passed away, surrounded by his loving family, while in the care of staff at Unit B, Community Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; devoted and loving wife Ellie (née Morris), son Joseph and his partner Becky, brothers Michael and Seamus, sisters Mary and Breda, brothers-in-law Phil, Noel, Martin, Dinny and John, sisters-in-law Mary, Lisa, Mary and Breda, Phil’s partner Mary, aunt Chrissie, nieces, nephews, grand-nephews, grand-niece, extended relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr Brennan will repose at Hugh Ryan’s Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles (Eircode E41 CP59) on Monday afternoon, June 29th, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm same evening.
His funeral cortège will be received into the Church of the Nativity of Our Lady Church, Loughmore, Templemore, (Eircode E41 F5N0) on Tuesday morning, June 30th, at 11:00am, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:30am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards in the adjoining graveyard.

Nature Of Danger: Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Golden Age Hollywood Star Ann Blyth Dies At The Age Of 98.

Ann (Anne) Marie Blyth, the singer and Oscar-nominated actress remembered for her unforgettable performance as Veda Pierce in the 1945 classic Mildred Pierce, has died at the age of 98.

The Hollywood Golden Age star died of natural causes on Wednesday, according to US media reports.

Blyth became widely known as Joan Crawford’s spoiled and scheming on-screen daughter in Mildred Pierce, a role she played as a teenager. Her performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and helped make her one of the standout young stars of the era.

The film also brought Crawford the only Oscar of her career, for Best Actress, and remains one of the defining melodramas of 1940s Hollywood.

Born Ann Marie Blyth in Mount Kisco, New York, on 16 August 1928, Blyth began performing at a young age, first as a singer and stage performer before moving into films. Her soprano voice later helped her move naturally into musical roles.

Across the 1940s and 1950s, she appeared in a wide range of films, including Brute Force, Mr Peabody and the Mermaid, The Great Caruso, One Minute to Zero, The World in His Arms, The Student Prince, Kismet and The Helen Morgan Story.

Her career was briefly halted after she suffered a serious back injury in a toboggan accident, but she later returned to the screen and continued to work in film, theatre and television.

After stepping away from cinema in the late 1950s, Blyth made occasional television appearances, including roles in The Twilight Zone and Murder, She Wrote. Her final screen appearance came in a 1985 episode of Murder, She Wrote.

Blyth was married to James McNulty from 1953 until his death in 2007. The couple had five children. In 1973, she and her husband, both Roman Catholics were accorded the honorific rank of Lady and Knight of the Holy Sepulchre in a ceremony presided over by Cardinal Cooke.

She now leaves behind her a legacy as one of the last stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age, remembered for her grace, versatility and a chilling performance in Mildred Pierce that remains a landmark of classic American cinema.
