Irish Summer Time Begins Tomorrow Morning.

Clocks go forward tonight, with Irish Summer Time beginning tomorrow morning, Sunday March 30th, at 1:00am. This change will mean longer, lighter evenings from the start of next week.

This practice of advancing clocks is to make better use of the longer daylight available during our summer season, so that darkness falls at a later clock time.

Most of our smartphones, tablets, laptops and PC’s will automatically update.

Since April 2021, the European Parliament, of which Ireland is a member, voted by 410 to 192 in favour of ending this seasonal practice of moving clocks forward by an hour in springtime, and then back again in the autumn. This decision is expected to form the basis of further discussions within EU countries before taking a final stance on the matter.

The British government has already indicated that having left the European Union, it will stick to the current practice/system of switching clocks.
Sir Winston Churchill once stated that the switching of clocks enlarged opportunities for the ‘pursuit of health and happiness’, among the millions of people who reside in England, however, it should be remembered that the practice of changing clocks was first introduced in 1916 to save energy costs during World War I.

Death Of Frank Ryan, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday 27th March, 2025 of Mr Francis (Frank) Ryan, late of Arklow, Co. Wicklow and formerly of Knocklyon, Dublin 16, Kildare Town, Co. Kildare and Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Mr Ryan passed away peacefully while in the care of staff at the Wicklow Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; loving wife Carmel, daughters Orla, Niamh and Sinéad, son Seán, sons-in-law Gary and Sid, cherished grandchildren Darragh, Ciara, Aaron and Ava, sisters Finola, Betty, Antoinette, Colette and Monica, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Requiescat in Pace.

Funeral Arrangements.

The remains of Mr Ryan will repose at Colliers Funeral Home, Old Connaught Avenue, Bray, Co. Wicklow on Tuesday afternoon, April 1st from 4:00pm until 6:00pm same evening.
A celebration of his life will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, April 2nd, at 11:30am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in Shanganagh Cemetery, Dublin Road, Bray, Co. Dublin, [Eircode A98 VX58].

Moon To Pass Between Earth & Sun Tomorrow Morning.

A partial eclipse of the sun will see skies darken over Ireland tomorrow morning, Saturday March 28th, allowing us to experience the deepest eclipse experienced in the past ten years.

This phenomenon occurs when the Moon partially passes between the Sun and the Earth. Since the three planets will not be completely aligned, only part of the Sun will be obscured from our world.

The Aztecs, a Mesoamerican civilization that flourished in central Mexico in the post-classic period believed eclipses happened when the jaguar god Tepeyollotl swallowed the Sun, while the Cherokee, latter an Indigenous people of the Southeastern Woodlands of the United States, made as much noise as possible during an eclipse, to scare away the giant frog, they believed, was trying to consume it.

This happening, however, will see sunlight less powerful around mid-morning on Saturday, as the begins to cut a slice from the sun from 9:30am onwards until it reaches its peak at around 11:00am to noon.

The impact of this partial eclipse will be noticeable, particularly by people working outdoors. With bright, sunny spells expected in the east of the country tomorrow morning, the sky will otherwise remain cloudy with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle expected.
