Death Of Breda Cleary, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Saturday 12th April 2025, of Mrs Breda Cleary (née Gaynor), No.13 Clohessey Place, The Ragg, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband Albert and son Thomas; the passing of Mrs Cleary is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sorrowing family; loving daughters AnnMarie, Catriona, Frances and Imelda, sons Timmy (Tadgh) and Christopher, sister-in-law Rebecca, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, their partners, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Cleary will repose at her place of ordinary residence (Eircode E41 AV62) on Tuesday afternoon next, April 15th, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm same evening.
Her remains will be received into the Church of St. Laurance O’Toole, Inch, Monroe, Bouladuff, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, on Wednesday morning, April 16th, at 11:30am, to further repose for Requiem Mass followed by interment, immediately afterwards in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Death Of Mary Kevin, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Saturday 12th April 2025, of Mrs Mary Kevin (Ó’Caoimhin), formerly of No. 33 Kennedy Park, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and late of St. Paul’s nursing home, Co. Limerick.

Mrs Kevin passed away peacefully while in the care of staff at the Fergus Ward, of University Hospital Ennis, Co. Clare.

Her passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sorrowing family; loving sister Connie, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, neighbours and many friends.

Thurles Town Strangled By Traffic Admits An Taoiseach Mr Micheál Martin.

Speaking in Dáil Éireann the newly elected north Tipperary Fianna Fáil TD Mr Ryan O’Meara, has concurred that the town of Thurles is being strangled by traffic issues; requiring immediate attention for an inner relief road. Same, if funding was provided, would link the N62 at Slievenamon Road to the Mill Road, thus providing a third vehicle bridge.

[Funny that, VIEW HERE. Back in 2021, we here in Thurles were previously informed that funding had already been acquired.]

However, many residents believe that Mr Ryan O’Meara has been fed false or inaccurate information and most business leaders see the proposed inner relief road as further waste of public funding.
An inner relief road already exists via the Mill Road, same entering and exiting south of Thurles at Turtulla Cross on the N62, which has seen 3 vehicles crash and be written-off, within the past 12 months.

Any new inner relief will only permit the exit and entering of vehicles closer into the town centre, with HGV traffic still required to travel to the four corners of Ireland, directly through our medieval streetscapes, which for the past 4 years have become a bottle neck, currently existing for all vehicles attempting to pass through Thurles town centre.

The only piece of common sense and perhaps even a small glimmer of hope was expressed by An Taoiseach, Mr Micheál Martin TD, responding to our misinformed, raw recruit, Mr Ryan O’Meara.
Mr Martin stated that the long queues of traffic being experienced, would become a thing of the past, if Thurles had a ring road/bypass and he would try to feed that into an expected review of the present National Development Plan.

As for Fianna Fáil TD, Mr Ryan O’Meara’s speech interjection in Dáil Éireann; same was perceived and smelled of the scent of a vote catching press release, same greedily accepted from his Nenagh office by local press, who were obviously experiencing a slow news day.

Relics Of St Pio To Visit Holycross Abbey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

The former Cistercian Monastery Abbey at Holycross, near Thurles, County Tipperary (Eircode E41 PH01), are honoured to announce that the relics of St Pio (St Padre Pio), will be present within the Abbey building, on Saturday May 24th and Sunday 25th, next, 2025.

This is observed as a very rare and special opportunity for pilgrims and devotees of St Pio to gather together, pray, and reflect, during these two days.

This event marks the culmination of significant preparation and collaboration with the St Pio Foundation. As the beautiful Abbey, this year, commemorates the 50th anniversary of its total restoration; now is the perfect time to celebrate this connection between St Pio and Holycross Abbey.

Five relics will be on display: St Pio’s Crust of the Wounds, a lock of his hair, a piece of his Mantle, his white fingerless glove, and his handkerchief.

On Saturday May 24th, the relics will be available for veneration from 10:00am to 8:00pm.
On Sunday May 25th, the relics will be available for veneration at 9:00am, followed by our traditional St. Pio Day events, beginning at 1:30pm. The day will culminate with Mass in honour of St Pio at 3:00pm, followed by continued veneration until 8:00pm at which point the Abbey will close and the relics will be returned to the St. Pio Foundation.

Given that Holycross Abbey will be the only place in Ireland, where these relics will be available for veneration, a large number of pilgrims are expected, and the Abbey is truly privileged to have been chosen to host this remarkable event.

Male Dies In Tipperary Car & Ride-On Lawnmower Collision.

A man has sadly lost his life following a collision between a car and a ride-on lawnmower last night, Friday April 11th, in South Co Tipperary.

The collision occurred on the N76 at Kilcash Cross at approximately 9:50 pm.

The man, aged in his 30s, who was travelling on the ride-on lawnmower, was later pronounced dead at the scene, before his body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford.
No other injuries were reported and a post-mortem examination will take place in the coming days.

This morning, the road remains closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions have been put in place.

Gardaí are today appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Any road users who may have dash-cam or other camera footage and who were travelling in the area on the N76 between 9:30pm and 10:30pm are being asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
