Increase In Mandatory Retirement Age For Prison Officers.

The mandatory retirement age of prison officers has increased from 60 to 62, with effect from today.

The provisions which facilitate an increased mandatory retirement age for Gardaí will follow shortly, and, in the interim, the existing retirement age extension and retention arrangements in An Garda Síochána will continue to apply.

The increase is to the maximum retirement age, however people will still be able to continue to retire at 60, should they so wish.

These regulations were made possible by the enactment of Section 28 of the Courts, Civil Law, Criminal Law and Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2024 on July 17th 2024.
This step amended section 8 of the Civil Service Regulation Act 1956 to provide that the acting Minister for Justice may (with the consent of the acting Minister of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform) make regulations setting the mandatory retirement age of prisoner officers.

Note: The mandatory retirement age for firefighters and members of the Permanent Defence Forces has also increased from 60 to 62 with effect from today, August 19th 2024.

Work To Re-design Thurles Now Moves To Robert Emmet Street.

Thurles.Info’s ‘Eye in the Sky’, swooped down to take a closer look this morning at the most recent re-designing of streets in Thurles.
Robert Emmet Street (often spelt ‘Emmettsituated immediately to the rear of Tesco) has been the scene of the latest attempts by a motorised vehicle to change the Thurles landscape.

Badly damaged ‘Watery Mall’ Famine Wall.

This time the object of someone’s attention was the Great Famine 1847 stone river wall. This wall in recent years; during the Spring and Summer seasons, has successfully hidden the noxious weeds, the dumped plastic wrappers, the tin cans and the glass and plastic bottles.

Biodiversity sign hidden by supposedly biodiversity during the ‘No Mow May Ever’ season.

I hasten to mention that this same wall has also hidden the inability of town officials to undertake the cutting of the grass and noxious weeds, which in turn grants cover to water rats, allowing them to frolic freely of an evening; and all in the name of biodiversity which of course includes every bacterium that makes up our natural world.

Does Thurles still needs a Ring Road before 2040 I ask?

Peace Like A River.

Lyrics: Ms Dolly Rebecca Parton.

Peace, like a river,
Bathe me in your holy stream.
In your soothing, living waters,
Flood my soul and wash me clean.
Point me in the right direction,
Use me as you think you should,
And may I be a great reflection,
Of the things that’s right and good.
Mmmm (peace like a river).
He is the answer to our questions,
To our prayers, to all things.
He is forgiveness to all confessions,
The provider of all needs, (the provider of all needs),
And He is hope, (yes, He is),
In desperation, (oh, yes),
Comfort to the soul and mind.
Well, He’s our God and our connection, (He’s our God, our connection),
To a land that transcends time.
His hand, (His hand),
Is ever reaching, (ever reaching),
And His joy, beyond compare.
Oh, His words are ever teaching, (His words, ever teaching),
And His burden, a light to bear.
He is there and ever willing, (He is there, ever willing),
To lead us through the darkest night, (through the darkest night),
And His love is ever giving, (and His love),
And His Son, the guiding light.
Sweet peace, (peace like a river),
Wash me down, Lord, (peace like a river),
Oh, wash me clean, Lord, wash me clean, (wash me, Lord), (peace like a river),
Baptize me (peace like a river) in Your living water, (peace like a river).
He’s the answer (He is the answer),
To our questions (to our questions),
To our prayers and to all peace (to our prayers and peace).
He’s the healer of imperfections,
The provider of all needs,
And He is hope, (He is hope),
In desperation, (desperation),
Comfort to the soul and mind, (soul and mind),
He is peace, (He’s peace),
Like a river, (like a river),
He is yours, (He’s yours).
And He is mine, (He’s mine).
He’s yours.
He’s mine.
Peace like a river.
