Since the beginning of last week Revenue officers have seized contraband with an estimated value of some €355,000. The seizures were made in various operations in Tipperary, Dublin, the Midlands, and at Rosslare Europort.
The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence led operations, and included some 5.4kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of €108,600; some 5,200 mixed tablets, with an estimated value of €10,300; cash to the value of €42,750, and some 561 counterfeit items, estimated in value at some €178,000.
Revenue detector dogs Ciara and Enzo discovered herbal cannabis and mixed tablets, while Revenue officers were examining parcels in Dublin and the Midlands. Same had been sent from France, India, and Holland and were destined for various addresses nationwide on the island of Ireland.
Ten weapons were also seized in searches in the Midlands, and separately, tobacco and alcohol products with an estimated value of almost €14,000, (representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €10,400), were seized in various operations in Co. Tipperary, the Midlands and in Co. Wexford.
The counterfeit goods seized were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have seriously infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.
During the operation in Co. Tipperary, Revenue officers seized cash to the value of €42,750 during the search of a property using a search warrant. On Friday last May 2nd 2025, Revenue officers were granted a 3 month detention order, in respect of the aforementioned cash, by order of Mr Justice Brian O’Shea at Clonmel District Court, South Co. Tipperary.

All the above seizures were part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activities and further investigations remain ongoing.
It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday, Tuesday 6th May 2025 of Mr Michael (Mickey) Holden, Boherboy, Cloneen, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Mullinahone, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
In his 94th year and pre-deceased by his loving wife Bridie and grandson Lawrence; Mr Holden passed away peacefully while in the care of staff at Waterford University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; loving daughters Maire (Maher), Helen (Laihem) and Kathleen (Holden Kelly), sons-in-law Larry, Arexki and James, grand-children Breda, Sinead, Siobhan, Zinedine, Darragh, Conor, and Oran, great-grand-children Emma, Katie, Johnny, Ciara, ava, saoirse, Ellie, Grace, Jack, Aaron, Tommy and Niamh, extended relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

The earthly remains of Mr Holden will repose at St Michael’s Church Mortuary, Kickham Street, Mullinahone, Thurles, (Eircode E41 EW94), on Friday afternoon, May 9th, from 4:30pm until 7:00pm same evening.
Requiem Mass for Mr Holden will be celebrated on Saturday afternoon, May 10th, in the Church of St Michael, Mullinahone, Thurles at 2:30pm, followed by interment afterwards in St Michael’s Cemetery Killaghy, Mullinahone, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Her funeral cortege will be received into the Church of Our Lady and St Kevin, Littleton, Thurles, on Friday morning, May 9th, at 11:00am, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:30am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in St Peter’s Cemetery, Moycarkey, Thurles Co. Tipperary.

It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death, on Tuesday 15th April 2025, of Mr Lloyd Mullen, formerly of Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
In his 95 year and pre-deceased by his parents George & Frances, (Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary) and twin sister Ruby; Mr Mullen passed away peacefully at his place of ordinary residence in Croydon, England, surrounded by his loving family.
His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; loving wife Promilla, daughter Cherry (Blundell), son-in-law, adored grandchildren Hazel and Timothy, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

The 9:00am Ballybrophy to Limerick (via Nenagh) train; same carrying 16 passengers and two crew members; (the driver and a ticket checker), were on board the train, which collided with a motor vehicle on the user-operated level crossing, just west of Nenagh town at around 10:00am this morning.
It is understood that two persons were seated in the car at the time of the collision, but reports state that while they suffered from severe shock, thankfully neither were otherwise seriously injured. Passenger on board the train are also understood to have received no serious injuries.
Emergency services, including Gardaí, were alerted and attended at the scene, while later a bus was arranged to transfer train passengers to their original destinations. The Railway Accident Investigation Unit at the Department of Transport were also notified.
