Death Of Wally Byrne, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday Saturday 30th September 2023, of Mr Walter (Wally) Byrne, Blackstairs, Hollyford, Co. Tipperary.

Mr Byrne passed away peacefully, while in care of staff at the Woodlands Nursing Home, Dundrum, Co. Tipperary, following an illness.

His passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by his family; Joseph, Tommy, Niamh and Anne Marie (Butler, Blackstairs) and Pat, Nora, Jimmy, Mary and Tom, extended relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr Byrne will repose on tomorrow afternoon, Monday October 2nd at McCormack’s Funeral Home, Kilcommon Cross, Thurles from 5:30pm until 7:30pm, followed by removal to St. Joseph’s Church, Hollyford, same evening.
Requiem Mass for Mr Byrne, will be celebrated on Tuesday morning, October 3rd, at 11:30am, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in the adjoining graveyard.

Use Of Cannabis In Ireland Is Of Huge Concern.

The chief medical officer Professor Breda Smyth has warned that the use of cannabis in Ireland is of huge concern.

Professor Smyth speaking at the fifth meeting of the ‘Citizens’ Assembly on Drugs Use’, stated that one in five adult cannabis users will become dependent on the drug, and one in three young persons are likely to become addicted, if they continue to use the drug as little as just once a week.

Professor Smyth stated, that the strength of cannabis potency, has increased by 57% in the 10 years from 2011-2021, with people using the drug often on a daily basis.
Some 45,000 people with cannabis-use disorders, is show in the latest data available, with those under 18 years of age accounting for 80% of new presentations to cannabis addiction treatment services, making it now a significant public health problem here in Ireland.

Professor Smyth confirmed that there were 409 drug-induced deaths in 2020, with drug-related hospitalisations accounting for approximately 53,000 inpatient bed days, each year, and a steady increase in admissions to psychiatric services, all associated with drug-related causes.

She continued by stating that the profile of drug users in Ireland has changed significantly over the last 30 years and while it can affect everyone, from all social classes across Ireland; it in particular, affects most severely, those in deprived areas of our society.

Death Of Timothy Morrissey, Formerly Thurles Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Mr Timothy Morrissey, Raheny, Dublin and formerly of Ballinahow, Thurles Co. Tipperary.

Mr Morrissey passed away peacefully while in the care of staff at Raheny House Nursing Home.

His passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by his devoted wife Ursula, children John, Jim, Conor, Eleanor and Tim Jr., extended family including Cearúil, Sarah, Laura, Uli, Lára, thirteen loving grandchildren, sister Kate, brothers Nicholas and Pat, neighbours and friends.

The earthly remains of Mr Morrissey will repose at Frank Jennings Funeral Home, Greendale Road, Kilbarrack, Dublin [eircode D05 KP80] on Tuesday evening from 6:00pm until 7:45pm.
His remains will be received into the Church of St John the Evangelist, Ballinteer Ave, Kilbarrack, Foxfield, Greendale Road, Kilbarrack, Dublin, on Wednesday morning at 10:00am, to further repose for Requiem Mass, followed by a cremation service at Glasnevin Crematorium, Finglas Rd, Glasnevin, Dublin.
