Senator Garret Ahearn Welcomes Funding For Tipperary Sea Walls.

Senator Garret Ahearn has welcomed an investment of €973,000 across 21 projects in Tipperary from the Department of transport.

Senator Ahearn said he was delighted to have received confirmation from his colleagues Minister Eamon Ryan and Minister of State Hildegarde Naughton that Tipperary County Council have been allocated €973,000 to help Tipperary’s road network become more climate resistant.

Senator Ahearn in his press release stated, “The Programme will assist Tipperary County Council in implementing 21 road improvement projects across the county while building on the support provided under the 2020 July Stimulus Plan”.

Senator Ahearn continued, “The types of projects approved for funding include schemes aimed at alleviating flooding to roads,…….the replacement/repair of seawalls which support regional and local roads.“

Village Market – Holycross

Saturday next June 12th 1:00pm – 3:00pm.

An exciting village initiative, hosting a wealth of skills, talents and creativity from our community and surrounding areas, in Holycross Village Centre, across from the Abbey Church.

In the past Irish social history has shown that villages have sprung up around existing monastic sites, holding markets and fairs that gave that area an economic base for its very existence.

Markets have ancient origins in Ireland, reaching back to the Irish word Margadh (market) or Markadr (market) latter word borrowed from the Old Norse language spoken by the Vikings.

It is not surprising therefore that Holycross Village Bi-Weekly Market should set up within yards of the historic Holycross Abbey, near Thurles, Co. Tipperary; with the organisers working closely with a very select, talented and growing group of vendors.

Chatting to the organisers today, we learn that Holycross Village Bi-Weekly Market now has some 30 open air stalls, thus making this street market more appealing and engaging for all age groups.
On Saturday next, June 12th, there will be Face Painting for little people and for those not so little, Hair Braiding.

With no hair left and wearing a grey beard to hide my ugly mug, personally I will forego the hair braiding and face painting; settling instead for a loaf or two of Crossogue Porridge Bread. (Trust me it’s delicious, try it.)

Death Of Rita Walsh, Boherlahan, Co. Tipperary.

It was with the deepest regret that we learned of the death, yesterday Wednesday 9th June 2021, of Mrs Rita Walsh (née Hayes), Ballinree, Boherlahan, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband John and grand son John (Sheehy); Mrs Walsh passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Her passing is most deeply mourned by her loving family John, Tommy, Aileen (Sheehy), Dick, Conor, Pat, Mairéad Maher and Philip, sons-in-law Bernie and John, daughters-in-law Marian, Catherine, Jean, Ann and Anne-Marie, her adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Walsh will repose for Requiem Mass on Saturday morning, June 12th, in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Dualla, Cashel, Co. Tipperary at 11:30am, followed by internment immediately afterwards in the adjoining graveyard.

[NB: Due to National Public Health Guidelines, regarding C-19 virus restrictions; those attending (limited to 50 mourners), will continue to observe strict adherence to social distancing and face covering.]

Death Of Michael Treacy, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with the deepest regret that we learned of the death, yesterday Wednesday 9th June 2021, of Mr Michael Treacy, Fantane, Borrisoleigh, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Predeceased by his parents Martin and Norah, infant sister Bridget, sister Cathy, brother Willie and niece Lorraine Chute; Mr Treacy passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

His passing is most deeply regretted by his loving wife Peggy, children Carol, Margaret (Meehan), Michael, Noreen, James, son in law Paudie Meehan and Dave Schulte, his adored grandchildren Anna, Michelle, Moira and Patrick, brothers, sisters, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mr Treacy will repose at his place of residence at Fantane, Borrisoleigh, Thurles, for family and friends, on Friday afternoon, June 11th, from 2:00pm, before being received into the Church of the Sacred Heart, Borrisoleigh, on Saturday morning, June 12th, to repose for Requiem Mass at 11:00am.
Following Mass, interment will take place in St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Borrisoleigh, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

For the many persons who would have liked to have attended the funeral service for Mr Treacy, but are unable to do so, due to current coronavirus pandemic restrictions; same can be viewed online HERE.

Covid-19 Updates: Wed. 9th June 2021 – 259 New Virus Cases.

The Department of Health this evening has confirmed there have been 259 new additional virus cases reported. (Same case numbers are subject to future data validation, because of the Russian Cyber attack on the HSE’s notifying system.)

There are 76 people with Covid-19 remaining in hospital today in the Republic of Ireland and of that number 27 are in ICU’s.

In Northern Ireland, their Department of Health has confirmed 105 new cases of the disease today.

Tipperary’s neighbouring county Limerick, holds the highest 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 people, standing at 449, compared to our national average of just 118. Co. Limerick was followed by Co. Donegal on 177.1 and Co. Dublin with a rate of 139.5.

The total worldwide number of virus cases identified up to 6.00pm this evening, now stands at well over 174.10 million confirmed cases, with global deaths at almost 3.75 million.
