Passengers Report Open Use Of Cocaine On Dublin-Cork Train Service.

Two passengers were “doing lines of cocaine” off the table on a train travelling through Thurles, from Dublin (Séan Heuston Station) to Cork (Thomas Kent Station), according to one of some 26 complaints lodged with Irish Rail in the past 18 months (January 2020 to June 2021).

One of the longest railway lines in Ireland at 266 kilometres (165 mls); in 2018, 3.46 million passengers travelled on this same Dublin /Cork line.

In all the complaints received of antisocial behaviour on this Irish Rail route; indeed several relate to drug use. A similar complaint said two passengers had a number of plastic bags and drugs on a table, which they were consuming, quite openly.

The other reports received involve details relating to drunkenness, harassment and threatening behaviour, latter which in the case of one lady; saw a report that one passenger threatened that he would hit her on the head with a bottle and machete (long flat bladed knife), if she did not talk to him.

Mr Dermot O’Leary, (National Bus and Rail Union), has called for a dedicated transport police force to be setup.
“The Cork-Dublin line is like a drug route at this stage. Our members certainly know who the drug-dealers and mules are; carrying these drugs,” Mr O’Leary stated.

Irish Rail have confirmed that the Dublin to Cork line passing through Thurles town is their busiest route; with the vast majority of journeys occurring without incident.

Yesterday, former model and newly married Thurles desperate housewife, Mrs Britney Ryan accompanied her rather peaky-looking husband, Tyler Ryan (Casey), to the local doctor’s office.

After the doctor had completed his check up, he asked Britney to remain in his office alone. Sitting her down, he informed her, “Your husband is suffering from a very severe stress disorder and if you don’t follow my instructions carefully and precisely, I am afraid your husband won’t see next Christmas”.

“What should I do then”, asked Britney

“To avoid this” continued the doctor “He needs building up. Each morning fix him up with perhaps a Raspberry and Apple or a Kale smoothie, followed by a healthy full Irish breakfast. Try to be pleasant and cheerful at all times, no matter what happens.”

“For lunch” said the doctor “May I suggest perhaps something like a Rainbow Chopped Salad tossed with a lemony herbed Greek yogurt dressing, or Curried spinach & lentil soup followed by Fresh Spring Rolls. Maybe some Green Pesto Minestrone, followed by a small portion of Tikka Masala, might be another nutritious idea.

“But most of all it is important that you make sure you do not burden him with chores or DIY projects around the house” warned the doctor, “And even more important still, don’t discuss your own personal problems with him.

“And then of course there is dinner in the evening and again if I might suggest you vary his menu. Medium fillet steak with pan fried onions and a thick creamy mushroom sauce, or perhaps a Chicken Satay Salad, or King Prawns with Harissa Spaghetti, another alternative could be Fresh Salmon with a Thai noodle salad“, the doctor continued.

If you follow these rules for the next 6 months, I think your husband will be on the road to full recovery very soon. Bring him back in a month and we can assess his progress”

On the way home Tyler asked Britney “Well, what did the doctor have to say to you about my condition”.

“The doctor has confirmed you’re going to die before the month is out” replied Britney.

Death Of Kathleen Fogarty, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with the deepest regret that we learned of the death, yesterday Tuesday 27th July 2021, of Mrs Kathleen Fogarty (née Drennan), Clonealy, Drombane, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and Formerly Gorrue, Knocktopher, Co. Kilkenny

Pre-deceased by her husband Dan and sisters Margaret and Bernie, and John (Latter who died in infancy); the passing of Mrs Fogarty is most deeply regretted by her loving family Patrick, Marie, Brid and Michael, by her adored grandchildren Danny, Michelle, Kate, Sinead, Eoin, Emma and Jack, sisters Mary and Bridget, brother Michael, sons-in-law Michael and John, daughters-in-law Sinead and Michelle, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and a wonderful circle of friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Fogarty will repose at her place of residence, for family and close friends on tomorrow evening, Thursday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
The funeral cortège, bearing the body of Mrs Fogarty, will be received into the Church of Jesus Christ Our Saviour, Rossmore, Cashel, Co. Tipperary on Friday morning, to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:30am. Interment will follow immediately afterwards in Kilvalure Cemetery, Glebe Cross, Drombane, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

For the many persons who would have liked to have attended the funeral service for Mrs Fogarty, but are unable to do so, due to current coronavirus pandemic restrictions; same can be viewed online HERE.

Death Of Mary Bartak, Formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with the deepest regret that we learned of the death, today Wednesday 28th July 2021, of Mrs Mary Bartak (née Walsh) Cork and formerly of Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Predeceased by her husband Mike and son John; Mrs Bartak passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Bon Secours Care Village, Mount Desert, Lee Road, Co. Cork.

Her passing is most deeply regretted by her loving family Barbara, Tony, Steve, and Eva, her adored grandchildren Jessica, Isabel, Kim, Alec, Ben, Sam and Paige, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, brother, sisters, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Confirmed Covid Cases Today On Island Of Éire Reach 3,008, With 396 Hospitalised.

The Department of Health has reported 1,408 new cases of Covid-19 today. As of 8:00am this morning, 152 Covid patients were in our hospitals, of which 26 are in ICU’s.
Sadly, there have been, to date, a total of 5,035 Covid-19 deaths in the Irish Republic, since the pandemic began.

Professor Philip Nolan, (Chair of the NPHET Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group), said the median age of today’s cases is 24.

The current trajectory of the more transmissible Delta variant, across the country, further confirms that unvaccinated people now remain at high risk of contracting the killer virus.

Professor Karina Butler, [Chair of the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC)], said she would strongly encourage those aged between 12 and 15 years old, with underlying medical conditions; those living with perhaps a younger child with complex medical needs, or with an immuno-compromised adult; to accept their vaccination as soon as same becomes available.

Another 1,600 positive cases have been reported in Northern Ireland by their health department today, up from 1,473 yesterday.
Sadly, also there have been three more coronavirus-related deaths recorded within the last 24-hour period. There are now 244 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of Covid-19 in Northern Ireland hospitals, with 32 patients in intensive care units, 23 of whom are on ventilators.

These figures combined confirm that the number of coronavirus cases on the island of Éire has now reached 3008; an increase of 415 in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 2 ‘Walk-in’ vaccination services will be made available in the towns of Nenagh and Clonmel, in Co. Tipperary this coming weekend. There will be no need to arrange an appointment in order to attend, anyone over the age of 16 can just stroll in.

The vaccines available are the mRNA Pfizer or Moderna and those attending are required to supply photo ID, a PPS number, phone number and their email address.

Keep in mind that the service will be available to the rear (Northern end) of the Abbeycourt Hotel, Dublin Rd, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary, on Saturday, July 31st (8:30am to 12:00pm), Sunday, August 1st (8:30am to 12:00pm) and Monday, August 2nd (1:30pm to 6:00pm), while in the south of the county, in the Clonmel Park Hotel, Poppyfield Retail Park, Cahir Rd, Ballingarrane South, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary on Friday, July 30th (9:00am to 1:00pm and 2:00pm to 5:00pm) and Saturday, July 31st (8:00am to 1:00pm).

Here at home, children will NOT have to be vaccinated against Covid-19 to attend their schools, the Minister for Health, Mr Stephen Donnelly has confirmed, following his announcement yesterday that the Covid-19 vaccination programme will be extended to all those aged 12 to 15 years, possibly as early as next week.

Meanwhile abroad, persons vaccinated against Covid-19 in high-risk parts of the United States are being requested to resume wearing masks indoors, on the advice of the country’s top health authority.

In Australia, millions of residents in Sydney are spending another month in lock-down, at least until August 28th next, with authorities announcing, a still-fast-growing coronavirus outbreak and stubbornly low vaccination rates. Sydney residents are being requested not to leave their homes only for exercise, essential work, shopping for necessities such as food, or medical reasons.
