Every year, we change our clocks on the last weekend in March and on the last weekend in October.
Despite the European Parliament voting in favour of removing daylight saving time, permanently, after the spring of 2021, we will still be changing our clocks again tomorrow morning at 2.00am. The notion of removing daylight saving time permanently was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our clocks will go back one hour at 2:00am on tomorrow morning, Sunday, October 31st 2021; which effectively means you get an extra hour in bed.
But cheer up kids; there are just 59 sleeps left until Santa comes down your chimney on Christmas Eve.
The Department of Health has confirmed 2,966 new cases of Covid-19 here in the Republic of Ireland over the past 24 hours. Same represents the highest number of cases confirmed since January 16th, 2021, when 3,231 new cases were reported.
As of this morning there are 470 patients in our hospital with the virus, down 11 on yesterday’s reported figures. Of these, 92 patients are being treated in our ICU, down five over the same time frame.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has reiterated yet again that the only way to break transmission of the virus is by following all aspects of public health advice, i.e. avoid crowded parties, wear face coverings and wash or sanitise hands frequently.

In Northern Ireland another 1,207 cases of coronavirus were reported over the past 24 hours, with sadly 8 more Covid-19-related deaths.
NPHET continues to urge the few remaining unvaccinated people here in the Irish Republic who have been offered a vaccine, to take it and importantly to make sure to present themselves for their second vaccine dose.

The Department of Health has confirmed 2,549 new cases of Covid-19 over the past 24 hours here in the Irish Republic.
There are 481 patients in hospital with the virus, down 6 over the same time reported on yesterday. Of these, 97 people are being treated in our ICUs countrywide, latter number down 2 on yesterday.
Meanwhile abroad, airports in Beijing were forced to cancel hundreds of flights as travel rules were tightened across China in an effort to tackle virus clusters as the capital gears up to host the Winter Olympics.
In Northern Ireland, their Department of Health has reported another 1,321 cases of the virus, together with, sadly, 7 further deaths of patients who had previously tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.
As of this morning, there were 351 Covid-positive patients in northern hospitals, of whom 34 were in intensive care units.
