Ministers Welcome Allocation Of Dormant Accounts Funding For Justice Initiatives.

Minster for Justice, Mrs Helen McEntee TD, and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Mr James Browne TD, have welcomed the allocation of funding, from the Dormant Accounts Fund, to a number of Department of Justice projects and initiatives.

Earlier today, the Department of Rural and Community Development announced that a total of €55.5 million has been allocated from the Dormant Accounts Fund to address disadvantage right across the country.

In total, approximately €10 million has been allocated to Department of Justice related projects and initiatives.

Welcoming this additional funding, Minister McEntee said,

“The funding we have been allocated will greatly assist us in the work we are doing to combat Domestic, Sexual and Gender Based Violence, roll out our Community Safety Partnerships, support victims of crime and support vulnerable young people.
The allocation of €250,000 for the implementation of targeted crime prevention and harm-reduction recommendations contained in the Drogheda Community Safety & Wellbeing Scoping Report will support, amongst others, The Red Door project for the provision of drugs outreach work, counselling, family support, client progression pathways, Court-related and prisoner support and additional harm reduction services in the Drogheda area.”

Welcoming the substantial allocation of €5,000,000 for Youth and Community Justice services, Minister Browne said,

“I very much welcome the Dormant Accounts Fund allocation for Youth Justice services. Together with the additional €6.7m extra Exchequer funding I obtained in Budget 2022, this allows us to make a very substantial start to the implementation of the Youth Justice Strategy.
The additional funding will allow us to ensure the Youth Diversion Project service is available throughout the State by end 2022 or early in 2023. It will also fund additional work in the areas of early intervention with children at risk, family support and outreach work with harder-to-engage young people in particular.
This work is vital to help divert young people from crime and anti-social behaviour and to protect victims by reducing future offending.”

Death Of Mary Kelly, Thurles, Co. Tipperary

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death today, Friday 12th November 2021, of Mrs Mary Kelly (née Hogan), ‘Casa Olivia’, Abbey Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Mrs Kelly passed away peacefully following a long illness, most bravely borne.

Pre-deceased by her daughters Olivia and Norma; her passing is most deeply regretted by her husband Willie, sons Rory and Billy, daughter-in-law Emma, cousins Teresa and Rita, grandchildren Cillian and Clodagh-Norma, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral Arrangements.

The earthly remains of Mrs Kelly will repose at Hugh Ryan’s Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles, on Sunday, November 14th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, before being received into the Church of St. Joseph and St. Brigid, Bohernanave, Thurles at 8:15pm.
Requiem Mass will take place on Monday morning, November 15th, at 10:00am, followed by interment immediately afterwards in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

For the many persons who would have liked to have attended the funeral service for Mrs Kelly, but are unable to do so, due to current virus restrictions; funeral Mass can be viewed online HERE.

Death Of Peggy Ryan, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death yesterday, Thursday 11th November 2021, of Mrs Margaret (Peggy) Ryan (née O Dwyer), Cappanaleigh, Upperchurch, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly the Lane, Garnakilka, Upperchurch, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Pre-deceased by her husband John; Mrs Ryan passed away peacefully, while in the care of staff at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny City, Co. Kilkenny.

Her passing is most sadly missed by her children Jim, Una and Donal, daughter-in-law Tara, son-in-law Adam, grandchildren Liam, Abbey, Leah, John, Daithi, Seána and Aengus, sister Annie, brother Willie, brother-in-law Morgan, extended relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Her body will be received into the Church of the Sacred Heart, Upperchurch, Thurles, to further repose for Requiem Mass on Sunday at 12:30pm, followed by interment in nearby Upperchurch cemetery.

Covid-19 Cases Reach 6,570 On Island Of Ireland Today.

The Department of Health has confirmed 5,483 new cases of Covid-19, in the Republic of Ireland, over the past 24 hours.

There remain currently 549 patients in our hospitals with the virus, same figure up 6 on yesterday. Of these, 96 patients are being treated in our hospital intensive care units (ICUs).
There have been also been reported, sadly, 74 deaths within the last week.

In Northern Ireland, a further 1,087 cases of the virus have been confirmed by their Department of Health, bringing their total since the pandemic began to 289,773 cases .

Today, there were 397 patients with Covid-19 in northern hospitals, up from 387 yesterday and of these 34 patients remain in intensive care units, down from 37 yesterday.

Sadly, also 2 Covid-19-related deaths have been reported in Northern Ireland today, with the total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic now at 2,784 .
