Pre-deceased by his father Jack: Mr Butler passed away peacefully while in the care of staff at St. James’ Hospital Dublin.
His passing is most deeply regretted by his heartbroken family, mother Joan, sister Mairead, brothers Liam, Michael and Paul, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

The InterTradeIreland supported meeting and workshop for IDEAM and Manufacturing NI is just one element of Manufacturing Solutions Ireland 2022 taking place at TUS (Technological University of the Shannon), Moylish Campus, Limerick, on Wednesday and Thursday June 15th and 16th, organised by TUS and UK Manufacturing Supply Chain trade association the GTMA*.

Manufacturing Solutions Ireland, which began in 2016, has grown from a successful manufacturing supply trade exhibition to a two-day event that now includes a multi-million euro Manufacturing Technology Zone and the IDEAM Digitalisation of Manufacturing Conference. Meet the Manufacturer also returns as part of this event, along side 150 exhibits, which attract thousands of exhibitors, delegates, manufacturers and visitors from across Ireland and the UK to Limerick.

Meanwhile day two of the conference will introduce EIT Manufacturing, the European body that seeks to empower people who are capable and inspired to shape the future of manufacturing. Its members will travel to Limerick to advise attendees at Manufacturing Solutions how to access the €400 million support fund.
Multi Million Euro Manufacturing Technology Zone. International businesses are also looking to Manufacturing Solutions Ireland 2022 to introduce new technologies to the Irish, UK and European markets through the new Manufacturing Technology Zone.
Large companies across the UK and Europe will bring machines, many never before seen in Ireland or the UK, to the event that is now considered one of the largest manufacturing events in Ireland.
Companies such as Mills CNC, Hurco, Wenzel, Werth, Fanuc, Lister Machine Tools, ETG Ireland, Premier Machine Tools and Starrag, will demonstrate machines valued at more than €5 million over two days in the Manufacturing Technology Zone.

Empty flower beds and empty dirty flower containers, Thurles June 1st, 2022
Today is June 2nd, 2022, and as yet not one flower container or flower bed has been planted this year by Thurles Municipal District Council staff.
Perhaps one of our local councillors might like to communicate to the public on why this has been allowed to happen.
Before the introduction of Property Tax all of our flower containers and hanging baskets were planted. Today, no public hanging basket exists and expensive flower containers remain filthy and empty of plants, except for what seeded itself over last year.

Yes, we have some large new pink flower containers on Liberty Square filled with “Box Hedging” and lavender-blue flowered “Catmint”, but these containers also are being neglected, with much evidence of “Dock” plants and “Yellow Rocket Cress”, same never ever intended for planting.
Thankfully, Thurles Shopping Centre and Lidl Supermarket have privately set the example, with both premises shaming Thurles Municipal District Council officials and our local elected councillors.

The Minister for Justice, Mrs Helen McEntee, T.D., has updated Government this week on her plans to shortly commence a review of the Civil Legal Aid Scheme, as committed to in her Justice Plan, 2022.
Announcing the review, Minister McEntee said: “Since the Civil Legal Aid Scheme was first established 43 years ago, (1979), Irish society has changed and the demands on the Scheme have grown.
To provide maximum benefit to the people it was first established to serve, within the finite resources available to fund legal aid, I believe that a robust, comprehensive review of the Scheme as committed to in Justice Plan 2022 is an important step.
The review will allow for an assessment of how well access to justice is facilitated by our Civil Legal Aid Scheme, particularly for those on low incomes. The Review Group will make recommendations for its future, including in relation to eligibility”.
The Review Group will be Chaired by retiredChief Justice, Frank Clarke, with membership drawn from those who work with marginalised groups, legal practitioners, academics, Department officials and representatives from the Legal Aid Board, which administers the current Scheme.
Named Membership of the Review Group will include: Mr. Thomas O’Mahony – Legal Aid Board nominee. Ms. Sara Phelan SC – Bar of Ireland nominee. Ms. Áine Hynes – Law Society nominee. Mr. Bernard Joyce – Director of the Irish Traveller Movement. Mr. Liam Coen – Department of Justice nominee. Professor Niamh Hourigan – Sociologist and VP of Academic Affairs – Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. Mr. Tom O’Malley – Senior Lecturer in Law, NUI Galway. Professor Frances Ruane – Economist and former Director of the ESRI. Ms. Eilis Barry – Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC). Department of Public Expenditure and Reformnominee – name TBC.
The Minister also highlighted how people will be able to have their say on this important issue; stating: “As part of the review process, I intend that there will be significant consultation to ensure that the insights of a range of stakeholders regarding the operation of the scheme – and how best to support those of limited means with legal needs – will inform the work of the Review Group.
Capturing the views of those who have unmet legal needs will be an important part of the Group’s consultation and engagement. One of the areas which will be considered in the review is eligibility for civil legal aid.
Ultimately the review should map out a future for the Civil Legal Aid Scheme; one which will provide for a flexible service that has, as far as possible, the capacity and resources to respond to the priority legal assistance needs of those of modest means.”
I will be launching a public consultation in the coming weeks and I encourage as many people as possible to participate and to have their say on this important matter”.
The Review Group is expected to commence its work in June 2022, for a period of 12 months. It will make periodic reports to Minister McEntee on the progress of its work, before submitting its final report once its work is fully completed.
The Review of the Civil Legal Aid Scheme is part of a broader civil justice reform programme the Minister is spearheading across her Justice Plan 2022, including the establishment of a dedicated family court structure; the finalisation of the first national strategy on family justice; an independently chaired Judicial Planning Working Group, which is examining the number and type of judges needed over the next five years to ensure access to justice; and the Implementation Plan on Civil Justice Efficiencies and Reform Measures, which the Minister published last week.
Son of the late Thomas and Kathleen and predeceased by his brother Tom (R.I.P.); Fr. Gerard passed away unexpectedly on May 23rd last in Wyandotte, Michigan, in the Great Lakes region of the upper Midwestern United States of America.
His passing is most deeply regretted by sisters Mary and Rena, sister-in-law, nieces and their partners, grand nieces, grand nephews, extended relatives, neighbours, his Pallottine community, former parishioners and friends.
The earthly remains of Fr. Gerard will repose in the Pallottine College, Thurles, Co. Tipperary on Monday, June 6th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, before being received into the Pallottine Chapel within the college at 7:00pm; to further repose for con-celebrated Requiem Mass on Tuesday, June 7th at 12:00noon. Following Mass, interment will take place in St. Mary’s Pallottine Community Cemetery, Cabra, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
