Join us here in Tipperary for the 20th Anniversary of the ‘Trip to Tipp Weekend of Cycling’, which will take place on the 15th & 16th August 2015, in aid of NCBI, working for people with sight loss. This year, as part of the celebrations, ‘Trip to Tipp’ have made some changes to the routes and participants and supporters also will be able to purchase a Special Limited Edition ‘Trip to Tipp’ jersey.

Here you can choose from either the 70 KM route or the slightly more challenging 100 KM route!
Both Routes depart from the Sarsfields GAA Centre Thurles at 12:00pm sharp.

 Tipperary Councillor Mr Willie Kennedy has confirmed tonight that following his ongoing representations, the following road repairs will be undertaken with immediate effect by Tipperary County Council.
In a statement Cllr. Kennedy said: “It has been confirmed to me personally that the road from Stouke to Whitepound Cross near Drumbane, Thurles, will be resurfaced in the coming weeks.
I can also confirm today that the following named roads will also receive much needed repair works, e.g. the road at Cloneyross and Gortahoola near Drumbane, Thurles; Gortakelly near Upperchurch, Thurles; Glentane near Borrisoleigh, Thurles and Ballypatrick, near Bouladuff, Thurles. All these repairs will commence within the coming weeks.
Apologising for any inconvenience caused during these necessary repairs, shortly to be undertaken, Cllr. Kennedy continued; “These roads have had no repair works undertaken so far this year and these forthcoming improvements are therefore most welcome. I will continue to make representations to the council for the inclusion of these same roads in the new 3 year Road Programme, latter which is currently being compiled by the Council and expected to be fully finalised later this year.”

Environment Minister Alan Kelly has come under fire from Fine Gael Louth TD Fergus O’Dowd, for allegedly doling out more than €1.5 million in unmarked grants to three towns in his own constituency.
According to Mr. O’Dowd TD, the Co. Tipperary politician was put in charge of allocating funding for a campaign to get commuters walking and cycling instead of driving, while then Transport Minister. However, prior to the local elections in May 2014, Minister Kelly gave some €1.5 million from the Active Travel Town Scheme Fund to the towns of Tipperary, Clonmel and Thurles, instead of other listed areas identified by an independent assessment group and which were deemed to be in greater need.
 €510,000 Active Travel Town Scheme Funding announced for Thurles by Minister Alan Kelly in April 2014 These revelations come about following the release of an independent scoring system made available under the Freedom of Information, which show that an independent assessment group had already pinpointed these funded projects for other areas.
Dozens of applications were received from towns all over the country for a €6.5 million Active Travel Fund. Mr Kelly, who was then Transport Minister at the time, gave most of the funding to the six highest-scoring small and medium-sized towns, in line with the group’s original recommendations. However he departed from the original scoring system to dole out €1.5million for projects in Thurles, Tipperary and Clonmel all in his own newly enlarged constituency.
The independent assessment expert group gave the Thurles project just 56 marks out of 100, saying it had “little in the line of behavioural change” to get people walking and cycling instead of using their motor vehicles.
To date, over one year later, none of the allocated funding of €510,000 for Thurles, which was first announced in April 2014, has been spent.
 Three people have died in an early morning single car collision and a fourth has been injured. The accident happened in Co Laois, close to the Co. Tipperary border.
The accident happened on the Rathdowney to Abbeyleix Road at around 3:00am this morning at Middlemount, (Ballyvoghlaun R433) latter approximately 3 kilometres from Rathdowney.
Gardaí reports state that the vehicle in which they were travelling collided with a roadside sign, which lead to a 20-year-old male driver and two women, aged 20 and 35 years, all being pronounced dead at the scene. The bodies of the deceased have been removed to Portlaoise Hospital.
A fourth person; a 16 year old boy passenger in the car was rushed to Tullamore General Hospital where his injuries this morning thankfully are described as non life threatening.
The road is expected to remain closed until lunchtime today to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out necessary inspections.

 The car manufacturers Renault have recalled thousands of vehicles due to a problem with their braking system.
Owners of more than 27,000 ‘Renault Captur’s’, here in Ireland and the UK have been urged to have their vehicles checked, following the company’s discovery that wheel arch liners have been incorrectly positioned, thus causing some of them to abrade against brake hosing.
Over 1,400 vehicles here in Ireland are affected, same having been produced between January 2013 and November 2014. Renault’s urgent ‘safety recall notice’ which issued to owners, state the fault could affect the braking efficiency of the vehicle. A spokesman representing Renault has stated that this recall is not a case of owners being required to halt driving their vehicle immediately, but rather to be alerted to the problem, especially if a warning sign ‘braking system fault’ message appears on their dashboard.
This popular Tipperary purchased vehicle, a Clio-based mini-SUV, has been in production since 2013 and was named What Car? – Best small SUV, for under €16,000 in 2014.
