Three People Die In Tipperary Border Crash

garda crestThree people have died in an early morning single car collision and a fourth has been injured. The accident happened in Co Laois, close to the Co. Tipperary border.

The accident happened on the Rathdowney to Abbeyleix Road at around 3:00am this morning at Middlemount, (Ballyvoghlaun R433) latter approximately 3 kilometres from Rathdowney.

Gardaí reports state that the vehicle in which they were travelling collided with a roadside sign, which lead to a 20-year-old male driver and two women, aged 20 and 35 years, all being pronounced dead at the scene. The bodies of the deceased have been removed to Portlaoise Hospital.

A fourth person; a 16 year old boy passenger in the car was rushed to Tullamore General Hospital where his injuries this morning thankfully are described as non life threatening.

The road is expected to remain closed until lunchtime today to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out necessary inspections.
