Learn Social Dancing in the Premier Ballroom, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Social Dancing Classes will commence, next month, on Tuesday February 7th at 8.20pm sharp and continue over a full six week period.
These classes are ideally suitable for anyone over 18 years of age wishing to learn the basic steps of social dancing, i.e. Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep and some Novelty dances.
Anyone getting married or going to a wedding this year or next would benefit greatly from these lessons.
The total cost of this six weeks course is a mere €25, which covers all costs associated with the 6 week course.
Keep in mind that dancing is one of the best forms of exercise; suitable for all ages; a great social activity lending itself to a most enjoyable night out.
These Social Dancing Classes are run twice each year (one in the Spring and one in the Autumn) and are expertly organised and sponsored by ‘The Club for Dancing,’ Thurles, for the past 26 years.

It is with sadness we report that a woman has died following a single-vehicle road crash in North Tipperary earlier this afternoon.
The victim has been named as Mrs Therese MacGowan; mother of much loved Mr Shane MacGowan, singer with the renowned band ‘The Pogues’.
Mrs MacGowan, who lived locally and who was aged in her late 80’s, is understood to have struck a wall in the townsland of Ballintogher, close to the village of Silvermines, with a vehicle she was driving, shortly before 3.00pm.
Her body was taken to Limerick University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out on tomorrow Monday.
The road has been closed to facilitate a forensic examination and local diversions are in place.

For many years here in Thurles, the youth musical theatre group, ‘Phoenix Productions’ have been bringing, annually to the stage, performances par excellence.
As the years have progressed, many of these young performers have continued in their great love of theatre and are regularly invited to join other musical groups and societies nationally, because of their acknowledged talents.
To ensure and encourage that such talent is continued on into the future, Phoenix Productions are holding a fund raising coffee morning in the Source Library on tomorrow(Saturday November 19th), from 10.00am – 1.00pm.

The wonderful song “One Day at a Time,” (written by Marijohn Wilkin and Kris Kristofferson) is much associated with the disease recognised as alcoholism, both here in Co. Tipperary and further afield.
Latter recording however may now well find itself in second place, following a new super recording of ‘Wine Into Water’(Songwriters: Bruce Burch / T. Graham Brown / Ted Hewit), courtesy of award winning songstress, Muriel O’Connor and musical partner Fran Curry, here in the heart of Co. Tipperary.
As a classical musician and a presenter of Tipp FM’s flagship talk show ‘Tipp Today,’ Fran Curry needs little introduction to Tipperary readers, while singer, entertainer and broadcaster Muriel O’Connor is also recognised as one of Ireland’s leading vocal entertainers.
The high definition video, shown above, was aptly filmed on a public walkway close to one of Tipperary’s finest tourist attractions, namely ‘The Swiss Cottage’ located on the banks of the River Suir at Kilcommon, near the town of Cahir, in County Tipperary.
Huge congratulations to American songwriter, singer, artist, and writer Bob Dylan, who earlier today, in Stockholm, Sweden, was awarded the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature.
Described today by the Swedish Academy as “having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”, Dylan most certainly brought a form of beauty and feeling to life’s greatest tragedies and during more than six decades his poetic songs have reflected his thoughts on death, betrayal, war and heartbreak, with each deserving of being read in their own right as simply a poem.

Born Robert Allen Zimmerman in May 24th, 1941; at the age of 20 years Dylan was playing at clubs around Greenwich Village befriending many folk singers and musicians including the “The Clancy Brothers” from Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary.
“Blowin’in the Wind” (Video shown above – Words possibly more relevant today than in the 1960’s), and “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall” were songs that established Dylan as the voice of his mid 20th century generation and demonstrated his unique understanding of how concerned American youth felt about issues like nuclear disarmament and the then fast growing movement for civil rights.
Dylan in his lifetime to-date has already and deservedly won many awards throughout his long career. These include: – eleven ‘Grammy Awards’, one ‘Academy Award’, one ‘Golden Globe Award’ and the ‘Polar Music Prize’, latter from Sweden’s King Carl XVI. He has been inducted into: – the ‘Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’, ‘Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame’, and ‘Songwriters Hall of Fame’. Dylan received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in May 2012, and in February 2015, he accepted the ‘MusiCares Person of the Year award’ from the National Academy of Recording Arts.
