Gardaí have announced that as and from midnight next Friday, there will be 1,031 speed camera locations around the country; increasing by 355 the previous number of similar detection zones.
These 1,031 Safety Cameras only now operate in locations where there exists a history of speed-related collisions, relating often in death; same identified using the most recent collision statistics available.
‘GoSafe’ provider and operator of the system, currently conduct 100 hours of surveying a month and the location of all enforcement zones can be seen clearly on the Garda website – See link http://www.garda.ie/GoSafe.htm
Warning: An Garda Síochána will conduct a national “Slow Down” operation starting also from next Friday morning; commencing from 7.00am and continuing for 24 hours.
It is also worth remembering that 68 people have been killed on Irish roads, so far this year, (6 of these sadly in Co. Tipperary).
Deaths on Irish roads, when compared to this time last year, have regrettably increased by an overall 13 fatalities to date.
 Three individuals; all believed to be male, have been arrested in the north of Co. Tipperary, following a seizure of drugs with an estimated street value of almost €250,000.
The drug seizures were made as part of an intelligence-led operation involving Roscrea Garda Divisional Drugs Unit, the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and Customs Officials.
The three individuals were all arrested at an address in Roscrea. One of those arrested is in his late teens and the two others are understood to be in their mid 20’s, and all are understood to be of Lithuanian nationality.
The arrested individuals are being detained at Nenagh Garda Station, following two separate discoveries and seizures of herbal cannabis. One of the seizures, weighing some 12 kilogrammes, has an estimated street value of over €140,000; while in a follow-up second search at yet another address in Roscrea; a package containing some 5 kilogrammes of herbal cannabis was also seized; same with an estimated street value of over €100,000.
It is understood that the drugs seized, possibly originated in Spain.
 A reminder that, as and from April 1st, 2016, dog owners who have not already micro-chipped their dog and registered them on an authorised database, could face a hefty fine of up to €5,000.
There are currently four authorised databases available for registration purposes; Animark, Fido, Irish Coursing Club and the Irish Kennel Club. Each of these authorised databases can/will issue dog owners with a certificate ensuring registered details, relating to your dog, are correct and same will become necessary with regards to the transfer of all/any future dog ownerships.
Laws introduced last June 2015 saw the introduction of the micro-chipping of all puppies under the age of 12 weeks. From last September all pups being offered for sale are required to be identified by way of this micro-chipping process.
The next phase in this initiative now calls for every dog in Ireland to be micro-chipped, with the regulation being brought into force with effect from April 1st, 2016.
This current scheme is expected to bring a wide range of benefits to dog and their owners, through assisting in the speedy identification in the case of stray and stolen dogs, together with supporting overall animal welfare and protection.
Micro-chipping will also act as a deterrent for those who insist on abandoning their pets, while also assisting in the identification of marauding dogs that so often pose considerable financial hardships through attacks on farm livestock e.g. Lambs etc.
Three men, named as Mr Alan Freeman, aged 35, with an address at No. 73 Pierce Park, Tipperary Town, Co. Tipperary; Mr Patrick Roche, aged 53, and his son Mr Philip Roche, aged 23, both the latter with an address at Kilcornan Close, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, have appeared in Kilmallock District Court today.
The three men are facing a total of 23 charges between them, which include; Assault, Aggravated Burglary, False Imprisonment, Handling of Stolen Goods, Aiding and Abetting and Drug Possession (with intent to sell).
Mr Freeman made no reply when he was formally charged by Gardaí, in connection with three counts of aggravated burglary, false imprisonment at Killuragh and the handling of a stolen Land Rover vehicle.
The incidents, under which the three individuals stand accused, in total relate to aggravated burglaries at Killuragh, Cappamore, Sunville House, Pallasgreen and Ballyluddy, Pallasgreen including the false imprisonment of residents at these addresses in April and May 2012.
Killuragh: Ian Cruise’s home at Killuragh, Cappamore was raided by a gang of men armed with a shot gun, a baseball bat and a sledge hammer.
Sunville House: It’s alleged that six members of the Garvey family were falsely imprisoned at their home and threatened by a number of men who were armed with a sawn-off shotgun, a baseball bat and a sledge hammer on the 16th of April 2012.
Ballyluddy, Pallasgreen: On the 31st of May 2012 it is alleged that three elderly members of the Creed family, (one male and two females, all aged 69, 75 and 77 years old respectively), were tied up and beaten during an incident which lasted for over an hour, while their assailants remained armed with a knife and an iron bar.
A Garda detective informed Judge M/s Marian O’Leary that he believed that Mr Philip Roche was a leading member of the Roche-Freeman criminal organisation, which had links across counties Tipperary, Limerick, Cork and Dublin. He also stated that he feared that Mr Philip Roche would interfere with witnesses; commit further aggravated burglaries and fail to appear for his forthcoming trial, if granted bail.
Judge O’Leary remanded all three men to be detained in custody, to appear before Limerick District Court, via video link, on March 21st next.
Revenue officers have seized a quantity of illicit cigarette and tobacco worth an estimated €10,700 here in Co. Tipperary.
The seizures were made following the search of a car by Revenue officers in the Golden area close to Cashel in Co. Tipperary on Wednesday morning last.
The officers are understood to have discovered further contraband cigarettes and tobacco in a follow-up search, carried out under warrant, at the driver’s residence. Revenue officers also seized the car in which the cigarettes were located, as is required by law.
Some 22,800 cigarettes; branded Marlboro; Monte Carlo; Royal Classic; Jim; MG; NZ Gold; and Che, were seized together with 200 grams of tobacco; branded Amber Leaf and Cherry Choice.
In total, the products posed a potential loss to the Irish Exchequer of some €9,100.
A man believed to be in his 50’s was questioned and a file is presently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
