Yesterday, Gardaí seized cannabis plants valued in the region of €5,000 in Carrig-On-Suir, Co. Tipperary.
At approximately 6.00pm, Detectives from Carrick-on-Suir, with the assistance of local Gardaí and the Tipperary District Drugs Unit, executed search warrants at two properties in the Ahenny area of South Tipperary. During the first search, Gardaí recovered a number of mature cannabis plants from a sophisticated cannabis grow house inside the property. The grow house contained lights, fans, heaters and an irrigation system.
At the second search area Gardaí seized cannabis plants that were growing outdoors at the rear of the property.
No arrests, to date, have been made, but investigating officers are following a definite line of enquiry.
Of course, from a history point of view, the small village and townland of Ahenny, in County Tipperary, is notable not just for its megalithic tombs, but also for its ancient Irish “high” crosses, latter amongst the earliest examples of Celtic “high” crosses to be found in Ireland. (Now you know why they are called “high” crosses. Pardon the pun.)
