B O I To Close Service Centre In Tipperary

The Bank Of Ireland have announced that 28 service centres will close across four locations in Ireland, resulting in the loss of some 200 jobs expected overall.

These centres, understood to presently give employment to 419 people involved in administration and support services, are due to close their shutters by the end of this year.

Locations affected will include Co. Tipperary, with these jobs being centralised as part of the B O I’s restructuring efforts. Affected staff are expected to be able to apply for new roles within the company or to involve themselves in the acquiring of early retirement options.

Branch networks remain unaffected by this latest announcement.

Deputy Lowry TD Welcomes News On Lisheen Site.

Independent Deputy Michael Lowry has confirmed that EU Commissioner Phil Hogan will today formally announce the sanction and funding for a revolutionary bio-economy research project, led by Glanbia Ireland.

This exciting development will be based at the former Lisheen Mine site which has been designated as a green energy hub.

This project has huge prospects for full time employment and it is conservatively estimated that it has the potential to create 300 permanent jobs. The initial site preparation and construction phase of the development will employ both directly and indirectly; up to 160 people.

The project will involve the development of a new bio-refinery and will use technology which has been developed by Glanbia Ireland.

When completed the bio-refinery will help in tackling the current environmental crisis created by waste plastic across the country and the world.

Deputy Lowry stated, “I am pleased to have made my contribution to ensure that this key development would be located at the former Lisheen Mine site, and I compliment all the agencies involved in the partnership which will deliver this significant bio-refinery project.
I wish to thank Commissioner Phil Hogan and Minister Heather Humphreys for their support, cooperation and assistance throughout this complex and lengthy process”

High Court Declaration Sought In Perrin Property Case

Mr Chris Lehane, Official Assignee in Bankruptcy in Ireland, is seeking a declaration from the High Court relating to the beneficial ownership of property transferred into the sole name of Mr Albert Perrin by his wife Mrs Heather Perrin.

Mrs Perrin is understood to have transferred the property situated at Lambay Court, Malahide, Co. Dublin, into her husband’s sole ownership, in 2012, a month after she had been sentenced to 2½ years in jail for deceiving a then 83-year-old client.

Mrs Perrin is understood to own a half-share in a large two-storey house, complete with stables and 5 acres of land, purchased in 2005 and situated at Ballykelly outside of Cashel, in Co Tipperary, in the heartland of horse breeding and racing country.

Mrs Perrin, who to date is the only Irish judge ever to have been given a prison sentence; declared herself bankrupt in 2016, asserting debts of some €572,000 to Ulster Bank; €500,000 to the Irish Revenue Commissioners and €19,753 owed to three separate credit-card companies. Mrs Perrin’s debts are understood to have exceeded her liabilities by some €865,890.

Mrs Perrin, who had a solicitor’s practice in the coastal suburb of Fairview, Dublin, before being appointed to the bench, had her son’s name written in to the will of an elderly client, Mr Thomas Davis. Her daughter Sybil was also set to receive a share of €500,000 or half his estate, before the deception was uncovered.

The transferred stated property was put on the market by Mr Perrin, one year later in 2013, with a guide price of €650,000, but was later withdrawn from sale. Dublin house prices today would indicate that this property is worth possibly €1million, with a nearby property having exchanged hands for €1.125m in 2010.

A number of other parties are also believed to have lodged claims on the property on the basis that Mrs Perrin still retains a beneficial interest. They include Glenda Gilroy, alleging theft from her son, Gareth, a minor; Noel T. O’Hanrahan, the solicitor who bought Perrin’s Fairview practice when she became a judge, and the Frederic Ozanam Trust, which runs St Vincent de Paul, in relation to a €40,000 bequest made by a client of Mrs Perrin.

Thurles Lions Trust To Hold Information Day On Stanwix Homes Refurbishment

Stannix Home, Thurles, Co. Tipperary

The Department of Housing has granted an allocation €3.15 million for the upgrade of the Stanwix Homes to Thurles Lions Housing Trust Association, who intend to carry out repairs to the existing building, as well as building new housing structures on the adjoining land.

Thurles Lions Club members through Thurles Lions Housing Trust Association, are now asking the community to please note that a public information day regarding The Stanwix Homes will be held on Saturday next, 13th January 2018, in the Order of Malta Hall, Boheravoroon (Borroway), Thurles Townparks, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, from 11.00am to 4.00pm.

Plans for the proposed refurbishment of The Stanwix Home, Upper Kickham Street, Thurles are now taking shape. This iconic building, known with affection as “The Widow’s Homes”, has provided sheltered accommodation for some 129 years. However, despite upgrading by Thurles Lions Club in the past, this accommodation is no longer suitable to modern day required standards, and thus a major refurbishment of the property is now well overdue. Future proposed works will ensure that the property can continue to provide sheltered accommodation, to a modern standard, for the next 100 years.

The plans to be put forward by Thurles Lions Trust Housing Association are to oversee the refurbishment of the existing building, latter a protected structure, to the highest possible standards; this together with the construction of new units of accommodation on the site. It is hoped to submit an application for planning permission to Tipperary County Council for works in the very near future, which, if approved, will deliver a total of 19 accommodation units for the site.

The new proposals include for the provision of the following facilities:-

(1) Nine one bedroomed apartments, to modern accommodation standards, following the refurbishment of the existing Stanwix apartments.
(2) Five new own-door one bedroomed apartments in a new block.
(3) A community home to accommodate 4 adults who will require 24 hour supported accommodation in addition to accommodation for 1 carer, and
(4) A communal facility in the former Director’s House which will combine community facilities for the residents of the development, with a support centre for the local community.

Prior to submitting the application for planning permission, Thurles Lions Trust are holding an information day where the plans for the proposed development can be viewed and where comments and suggestions from the public are welcome.

Thurles Lions Club are now inviting people to come along to Saturday’s public information day and give them your views.
