“Women on the Verge” is set in Dublin, and tells the comical tale of three career-driven friends all in their 30’s, each at various stages of their chosen careers. Their friends and colleagues appear to be ever increasingly in full and total control of their daily lives, while these 3 aforementioned friends seem to be moving in quite the opposite direction. These same three friends referred, are played by Ms Kerry Condon (35); Ms Eileen Walsh(41) and Ms Nina Sosanya (48).
The blue eyed, Ms Condon stars as ‘Laura’, an investigative journalist who is at serious risk of ruining her career, following a ‘sleepover’ with none other than her boss. Ms Walsh, stars in the character of ‘Alison’, latter who is back with her old ex-boyfriend Martin yet again, trying for a baby, following her series of disastrous previous one-night stands, while Ms Sosanya, staring as Laura’s (Kerry Condon) friend ‘Katie’, persuades her to go for a series of psychotherapy sessions with a psychologist played by Ms Sharon Horgan.
The very talented and unassuming Miss Condon first shot to fame in “Angela’s Ashes” in 1999, following it up with a string of films including “Rat”; “How Harry Became a Tree”; “Ned Kelly”; “Intermission”; “The Halo Effect”; “Unleashed”; “The Last Station”; “The Runway”; “This Must Be the Place”; “The Shore”; “Dom Hemingway”; “Gold”; “Avengers: Age of Ultron”; “Captain America: Civil War”; “Spider-Man”: “Homecoming”; “Breaking Bad”; “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri”;“Avengers: Infinity War”; “Bad Samaritan” and finally “Dreamland”, latter, an upcoming American drama thriller completed and set for full release sometime next year.
Ms Condon, since 1999 has also appeared in numerous TV series including:- “Ballykissangel”; “Born and Bred”; “Rome”; “Anatomy of Hope”; “Five Days”; “Luck” “The Walking Dead”; “Believe”; 12 episodes being presently broadcast in Series 4 of “Better Call Saul” and “Brace for Impact”.
Ms Condon first developed her love for stage, as a schoolgirl in the late 1980’s performing here for local audiences in the Premier Hall Thurles, in the Thurles John Player “Tops of the Town” performances; latter a cigarette-sponsored talent show, that surely rivalled nationally, today’s X Factor. Having honed her considerable talents both locally and nationally; today she performs, on an equal footing, rubbing shoulders alongside Hollywood greats like Colin Farrell, Tom Hanks, Helen Mirren, Christopher Plummer, Nick Nolte, Dustin Hoffman, to name but a few.
A High Court case which was expected to resume today, being heard by Mr Justice Kevin Cross, has been informed that the case had been settled out of court. The settlement agreed has not been disclosed.
The case involved the throwing of a wedding bouquet in the Aherlow House Hotel, Aherlow, Co. Tipperary, some 6 years ago. A 53-year-old childcare worker, Ms Ann White, with an address at Highfield Grove, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, had sued the extremely popular wedding venue after she had allegedly slipped on rose petals lost from a bridal bouquet, which had been thrown two hours earlier by the then bride, during her wedding reception.
The bride flinging the bouquet over her head to all the single ladies is a sign of good fortune, only for the one who catches it. Hundreds of years ago, it was thought to be very good luck to touch the bride. This often caused discomfort and an invasion of privacy to the bride. In order therefore to deter guests, brides then began the practise of tossing their bouquet to distract people before making a break for it with her husband, to their bridal chamber. The groom would later open the door and toss out her garter, once the couple was inside.
People just wanted pieces of the bride’s accessories because she was married. So female guests were naturally thrilled to grab the flowers, and male guests her garter, since both items were believed to bring romantic luck for the future to those who gained their possession.
Ms White informed the High Court that at around 12.30am in the early morning the bride had thrown her bouquet of pink roses to an over enthusiastic crowd of some 20 single ladies. Ms White stated that while she was dancing later, she slid on one of the rose petals lost from this bouquet; leading to her falling on her back and hitting her head and arm on the floor. She claimed that hotel staff had failed to gather up and remove these petals at this 2012 wedding reception, thus creating this incident on the dance floor.
The Aherlow House Hotel had fully accepted the accident had taken place on their premises, but contested Ms White’s claim, stating that her ongoing pain was in fact due to an already pre-existing condition.
Ms White claimed she had been unable to work again due to an ongoing pain in her wrist.
Wedding Venues are, in future, likely to look closely at this century’s old tradition, with a view to a total ban on this practise taking place on the dance floor, into the future.

“Summer Stars” has been rolled out again this year to all County Libraries nationwide. Interest in this exciting reading-based programme has escalated since the beginning of July in Tipperary Libraries, with more children than ever signing up.
It has been proven that children who visit their local Library regularly, develop stronger literacy and numeracy skills, alongside a positive attitude towards reading for pleasure and knowledge building.
As Dr Seuss so perfectly put it, “The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you’ll go”. Reading is a powerful motivational developmental tool. Parents who introduce and encourage their young children to read are giving them a huge gift for life. Numerous studies show strong links between reading and a child’s emotional development, imagination, creativity, social skills and overall well-being.
If you have not already registered your child for “Summer Stars”, simply drop into your local Library today and collect your Summer Stars Reading Card to record and track reading progress. It’s never too late to join up! Registration will be accepted right up to the last week in August. Rewards and incentives will continue throughout the summer with a presentation of certificates in early September for all participants who return their cards to their local library.
Don’t forget to check out the Summer Stars website HERE to participate in the online games and activities as well as sampling a range of animated e-books. Keep an eye on our library website HERE, for up and coming Summer Star events at your local Library.
Note: “Summer Stars” is a free programme and events are also free.
