Suspected Thurles Drug Dealer Appears Before District Court

garda crestThe male, aged in his 30’s and arrested during the course of a raid at a house in Thurles, Co Tipperary on Monday July 28th last, appeared in court yesterday.

Heroin, Amphetamines and Cannabis with an estimated combined street value of about €40,000 was seized when uniformed Gardaí and members of the Divisional Drugs Squad raided the house.

The male, named as Mr Thomasz Kozlowski aged 33 with an address at Clonoulty, Thurles, Tipperary, arrested at the scene, appeared before a special sitting of Nenagh District Court at 3.00pm yesterday afternoon.  He was charged with two counts under the Misuse of Drugs Act, one charge of possession and one charge of possession of drugs for sale or supply.

Mr Kozlowski will answer the charges on September 2nd next at Thurles District Court.

A woman, aged in her 20’s and also arrested in connection with this case on Tuesday last, was released later without charge on Tuesday night and a file in her case will now be prepared for the information of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Both arrests in Thurles were part of a continuing investigation by Gardaí into the sale, supply of drugs and associated criminality here in Co. Tipperary.

Drug Raids Confirmed In Roscrea & Birr Areas

GardaTwo men are understood to have been arrested for obstruction, following Gardaí searches carried out in Co. Tipperary and Co. Offaly this morning. Same was part of an investigation into suspected drug dealing and other related serious crimes. Five searches in all were undertaken.

Some 50 Gardaí, which included armed officers from the Regional Support Unit, the Garda Dog Unit and the Divisional Drugs Unit, were involved as part of this operation which focussed particularly on the towns of Roscrea, Co. Tipperary and the close-by town of Birr, in Co. Offaly.

It is understood that in their search Gardaí were forced to use a Taser (Electroshock protection weapon which disrupts voluntary control of muscles) on one individual during their investigations. One other person was removed to hospital with a suspected heart attack.

Gardaí confirm that these raids were planned in advance of last Monday’s nationally highlighted local Drug’s meeting held in Roscrea, where more than 1,150 people came together to discuss the growing problems of drug dealing and possible associated youth suicide in this area.

The men arrested have since been released.

Further News on Heroine, Amphetamine and Cannabis seizure in Thurles yesterday

A second person has been arrested by Gardaí following the seizure of drugs at a house in Thurles yesterday evening.  A female aged in her 20s was arrested this afternoon (30/7/2014) in Thurles. She remains also currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Thurles Garda Station.

Drug Seizure & One Arrest in Thurles

gardaGardaí have arrested one male and seized a large consignment of Heroine, Amphetamine and Cannabis as part of an ongoing investigation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in Co. Tipperary.

The drugs with a combined estimated street value of some €40,000 were seized when uniform Gardaí and members of the Divisional Drugs Unit searched a house here in Thurles yesterday evening.

A male aged in his 30’s was arrested at the scene. He is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Thurles Garda Station, latter Act which can permit his detention for up to seven days for questioning.

The Garda Press Office confirms that investigations are continuing and further updates are now expected to follow.

This report comes amid unconfirmed information that further Garda raids also took place in the Roscrea area. Latter raids came about following two major protest meetings in Roscrea, which were attended by over 1150 people and which were addressed by senior Gardaí, who indicated that plans were in place to call a halt to the problem of drug trafficking within the Tipperary precinct, thus protecting communities from the devastating impact of drugs and associated criminality.

Three Persons Injured Following Police Car Ramming

garda crestThree people, two of which were Gardaí, have been injured and taken to hospital after a patrol car was rammed in a head-on collision this afternoon on the Mountrath road, outside Portlaoise, Co. Laois.

It is understood that none of the injuries sustained are thought to be life-threatening and two of those injured included a female and a male member of the Gardaí.

The Garda car was struck on its driver’s side by a dark coloured BMW, which then crossed the narrow road before overturning.

This incident happened after Gardaí attempted to stop a car travelling southwards following reports of burglaries in areas of Tipperary and Cork.

It is understood that four persons, all male, were arrested in the vicinity; one at the accident scene and later three others who had taken flight through neighbouring fields and woodland.

The incident has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman for independent investigation, latter in accordance with Section 102 of the Garda Siochána Act. It is also understood that the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) are represented by investigators at the scene.

Window Smashed In Mitchel Street, Thurles

DSC_8961Residents on Mitchel Street, Thurles, Co Tipperary were awoken by the sounds of a noisy altercation and glass being smashed late last night.

One private residence had its front window badly shattered, at around 12.00 midnight, by a person or persons involved.

The house was occupied by at least two elderly people at the time.

Local Gardaí on patrol in the town were summoned and attended the scene within minutes of the incident happening.

Following their investigations, it is understood that at least one young man was immediately formally arrested and detained in relation to this occurrence.

Today the window remains boarded over, awaiting necessary repairs.
