New confirmed killer Covid-19 virus cases in Tipperary.
The Department of Health have confirmed this evening that sadly there has been 28 further deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 2,488. The ages of those who have died range from 25 to 98 years.
There are 3,955 new additional virus cases reported today. This leaves the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 163,057.
Of today’s cases nationally; 1,210 are in Dublin, 456 in Cork, 235 in Louth, 221 in Meath, 218 in Limerick, with the remaining 1,615 cases located across all other counties.
According to Ireland’s COVID-19 Data Hub, to date there have been 3,302 recorded cases of the killer Covid -19 Virus within the borders of Co. Tipperary, an increase of 34 cases in the 24 hours relevant up to midnight on Tuesday, January 12th, 2021.
University Hospital Limerick, the medical facility serving North Tipperary now has 142 people with the Covid-19 virus. This figure includes 12 persons in intensive care.
There are now 1,792 patients with Covid-19 in hospital nationally in the Republic, with 169 patients, in total, in intensive care units.
This third wave of Covid-19 is now agreed as being different to the previous two surges, as the virus has spread more rapidly and is affecting a wider range of people from all age groups.
An Tánaiste, Mr Leo Varadkar, informed the Dáil earlier today, that the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is in line to be approved by the European Medicines Agency on January 29th next.
In Northern Ireland today, sadly an additional 16 deaths from Covid-19 have been reported, with 973 new cases.
HSE Chief Executive Mr Paul Reid has confirmed that 69,378 frontline healthcare workers have been vaccinated together with 7,925 people in long term care facilities.
Three people, latter who travelled to south Co. Dublin from Co. Meath for takeaway burgers, are among 29 people who have been fined €100 each for breaching Covid-19 restrictions since the introduction of the upgraded new enforcement measures which came into full effect on Monday.
Total global cases up to 5.30pm this evening, now stand at almost 92.6 million, with global deaths headed for 1.99 million.
