Covid-19 Update: Wed. 24th March 2021 – 18 Deaths – 683 New Cases

over the last 24 hours.

The Department of Health has confirmed that there has been sadly 18 further deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 4,628.

There have been 683 new additional virus cases reported here within the Irish Republic. This leaves the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception, at 232,164.

Of the cases today; 75% are under 45 years of age, with 308 cases confirmed in Dublin, 68 in Donegal, 49 in Kildare, 35 in Meath, 30 in Offaly, with the other remaining 193 cases located across 21 other counties.

There have been 5,295 virus cases confirmed here in Co. Tipperary, since the pandemic began, same figure relevant up to and including March 22nd, 2021. Also 243 cases have been confirmed in the past 14 days, up to March 23rd, with 23 new cases confirmed within the past 24 hours.

There are 329 people with Covid-19 in hospital today, and of that number, 76 are in ICU’s, according to Ireland’s COVID-19 Data Hub.

Some 495,824 first doses of Covid-19 vaccines have now been administered here in Ireland up to March 20th, with 184,191 persons having received their second dose.

The number of Covid-19 cases identified in schools last week more than tripled from the week before. Some 110 cases were detected following the mass testing of schools in the week ending March 20th, according to the HSE’s weekly Covid-19 mass testing report for schools and childcare facilities.

The total worldwide number of virus cases identified up to 5:30pm this evening, now stands at over 124.47 million confirmed, with global deaths at almost 2.74 million.
