Covid-19 Update: Fri. 8th May 2020 – 27 Deaths – 156 New Cases

Current Covid-19 Trends Continue To Give Genuine Reason For Future Optimism

New virus cases confirmed here in the Premier County; (as at midnight on Wednesday, May 6th last), have risen from 506 to 512; an increase of a further 6 new cases now having been verified over a 24-hour period.

The Department of Health has confirmed this evening that a further 27 people have tragically died from the Covid-19 virus, here in the Republic of Ireland. These latest figures bring the death toll, from this pandemic, to 1,429.

A total of 156 new cases of the coronavirus have also, today, been identified here in the Republic, bringing the total since conception to 22,541.

Meanwhile, persons will lose their Covid-19 payment, if when offered their job back they refuse to accept it, An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has stated.

These series of payments were initially introduced by the Government last March, after businesses were forced to close their premises for health and safety reasons.

Details supplied by the Department of Social Protection show a total of 598,000 people are in receipt of the €350 per week Covid-19 pandemic unemployment payment.
