Death Of Tipperary Legend Tommy Wade, Cashel, Co. Tipperary

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death today, Monday 14th May 2018, of the legendary Tipperary show jumping rider Mr Tommy Wade, Ballyroe House, Cashel, Co. Tipperary.

Mr Wade passed away peacefully in the early hours of this morning while in his 80th years, at the Bons Secours Hospital, Cork, having suffered a stroke last week.

The exploits of this Tipperary man will be long remembered for his incredible performances in show jumping circles with his astounding horse ‘Dundrum’ ; winning Nations Cup and Grands Prix all over the world during the early 1960’s. His remarkable performance at the 1963 Dublin Horse Show; winning all five international classes and performing as part of the winning Aga Khan team that year; to date has never been replicated.

His other accomplishments as a rider included winning at almost every major world event, including top prize at the Horse of the Year Show; the Vaux Trophy at Newcastle; the King George V Cup at White City; the Boylan Trophy at Ballsbridge, and the Grand Prix in Brussels.

On his retirement, Mr Wade became the Irish show jumping chef d’equipe; leading the Irish team to over 30 Nations Cup victories at shows like Rotterdam, Hickstead, Aachen, Dublin, Calgary and La Baule, while overseeing Ireland win gold at the European Championships in 2001 and at the World Equestrian Games in 2002.

The passing of Mr Wade is most deeply regretted by his loving wife Felicity (Flick); daughter Maria; sons Robert, Alan and Ronan; daughters-in-law Nicola and Anne-Marie; son-in-law Pat; grandchildren Sarah, Marian and Alex; sisters Josie, Winnie and Biddy; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nephews; nieces; extended relatives; neighbours and friends.

Funeral Arrangements
The earthly remains of Mr Wade will lie in repose in the Church of The Immaculate Conception, Boherlahan Cashel this evening, Tuesday 15th May at 7.30pm.

Requiem Mass will take place on Wednesday morning 16th May, at 11.30am, followed by interment in Ardmayle Cemetery, Cashel, Co. Tipperary.
