Sunday next, the 7th of April 2013, will see the first steps taken by Michael Walsh and Yvonne Tyler, in their intended three month epic journey from Holycross Abbey, here in North Tipperary to the Cathedral Church of Santiago de Compostella Galicia in Spain.

The walk will commence with Mass in Holycross Abbey, Thurles, at 11.00 am, where according to the age old pilgrim tradition, their walking sticks and scallop shells, symbols of this pilgrimage, will be blessed by Fr Celsus Tierney CC, Holycross and their Pilgrims Passport, a record of the journey, will receive its first stamp or cello. Then, following a cup of tea in the local Community Hall, they will set off for Cashel on the first leg of their planned journey.

So if any of you are around on Sunday morning next, why not drop out to Holycross and see them set off on their long road ahead.

This walking pilgrimage will bring Michael and Yvonne from Holycross, Thurles, to Cork to catch a ferry to Roscoff in Brittany, then a trek down the west coast of France to join up with the Camino Frances in St Jean Pied de Port at the foot of the Pyrenees, where they will still have an 800k of their 2000k journey to still complete.

On their journey many friends and relatives plan to join the pair for a small portion of the journey, a welcome addition to both walkers.

Many friends and family members will join the walkers on their route to Cashel and again on the following days as they make their way to the ferry port of Ringaskiddy in Cork.

Two Irish Autism Charities will benefit from this walk, namely Tus Nua Autism Residential & Resource Centre Rehabcare, latter located in Stradavoher in Thurles and Cottage Autism Network, in County Wexford.

Slan go foill. Go n-eiri an t-adh leat agus go n-eiri an bothar leat. [English Translation: Goodbye for a while. The best of luck to you and have a good trip.]

George, I was at this church last June with my antique moto club. Do you have links for contribution support for Michael & Yvonne or their chosen charities?
