Planning Decision For Proposed Thurles Drive-Through Takeaway Delayed

New Thurles Shopping Centre under construction at the old Erin Foods site on Slievenamon Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

A planning decision on the proposed drive through take away at the southern end of the old Erin Foods site here in Thurles, which had been due to be announced on the 28th February last, has been further delayed.

It is understood that the planning authority requires a published notice of the developers requirement to submit a Natura Impact Assessment to evaluate the potential impact of the proposed development on the lower River Suir special area of conservation.

Surely the Planning Authority should have asked for this months ago!!
    Another tactic for delaying???
Grant the application and provide much needed employment for Thurles.

The NIS was submitted on February 1st. The applicant seems to have failed to post site notices and/or a newspaper notice re the submission of further information. The applicant submitted 23 files on Feb 1st – reports and drawings ranging from NIS, to Noise, Litter, Waste issues. Will there really be extra jobs or displacement from our town centre?

Yes, to both questions Catherine, 4 new low paid jobs, plus 6 casual late night posts, and again guaranteed displacement from Liberty Square.
Meanwhile, the vehicle noise, the screaming and shouting of revellers, latter with alcohol consumed will be greatly welcomed by those unfortunate enough to have purchased residential property nearby.

Hopefully it will get the go ahead. It would finish off the site and be well maintained. Good to see some investment in our town. I don’t imagine late night revellers being a problem. Is this an issue in similar edge of town locations in Cashel and Roscrea?
