17 new killer Covid-19 virus cases confirmed in Co. Tipperary

The Department of Health have confirmed this evening that there have been sadly 5 further deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll here in the Republic of Ireland remaining at 1,890.

There are 720 new additional cases reported today, leaving the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 58,767. (79 deaths in the last month, 32 of which were in nursing homes.)

Of this evening’s confirmed cases; 17 are in Co. Tipperary (1,116 cases to date, per RTE summary); 228 in Dublin; 130 in Cork; 47 in Galway; 31 in Meath; 27 in Limerick; with the remaining 240 cases located across 19 other counties.

However, the 14-day incidence rate continues to show the lowest rate as being here in Tipperary, at 133.5 per 100,000 of population.

The Health Service Executive has promised that in approximately eight week it will have some 800 contact tracers recruited, to deal with the Covid-19 virus pandemic. Currently, there are 550 staff working in the HSE’s national contact tracing centres. The HSE had also availed of 60 army cadets for one week to support contact tracing.

Currently, there were 341 confirmed cases of Covid-19 recorded nationally in our State’s hospitals at lunch time, with 38 of these patients in intensive care units.

There were 722 new cases in Northern Ireland bringing their total number of confirmed cases to 34,832, with sadly 13 further deaths from Covid-19 virus in the past 24 hours. Their death toll now stands at 671.

Total global cases, as at 2:00pm this evening, now stand at well over 43.5 million [Global Cases – 43,615,291] with global deaths well over 1 million [Global Deaths1,161,208].
