It was with a great sadness that we learned of the death, on Tuesday 15th April 2025, of Mr Lloyd Mullen, formerly of Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
In his 95 year and pre-deceased by his parents George & Frances, (Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary) and twin sister Ruby; Mr Mullen passed away peacefully at his place of ordinary residence in Croydon, England, surrounded by his loving family.
His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; loving wife Promilla, daughter Cherry (Blundell), son-in-law, adored grandchildren Hazel and Timothy, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.
The extended Mullen family wish to express their appreciation for your understanding at this difficult time, and have made arrangements for those persons wishing to send messages of condolence, to use the link shown HERE.
“Nearer my God to thee.”
I first met Lloyd when he came to live close to us in Ewell and soon became lifelong friends. We often travelled up to London with Professor James (Jim) Read to our respective jobs at the British Council (Lloyd), the School of Oriental and African Studies (Jim) and King’s College (me) and had many stimulating discussions, sometimes joined by other commuters! I remember with great pleasure the many times my late wife, Valerie, and I visited Lloyd and Promilla at 5, Fennells Mead particularly their New Year’s gatherings with various forms of entertainment and thoughtful meditations. Lloyd once told us that their door bell was linked to a kettle and we often took advantage of this invitation and were always welcome particularly when experiencing our various difficult times. Lloyd was a great raconteur and I never tired of listening to his stories and exchanging those of my own. I shall miss Lloyd but will retain, with pleasure, many happy memories. My thoughts are with Promilla and Cherry at this saddest of times and my daughter, Joanna, joins me in sending our sincerest condolences.
