Covid-19 Numbers Confirmed Today At 3,537 On Irish Mainland In Past 24 Hours.

The Department of Health here in the Republic of Ireland has confirmed 2,066 new coronavirus cases, within the past 24 hours.

There are 408 people being treated in hospital with the virus, an increase of six since yesterday, while the number of patients in intensive care units across the State stands at 69, a drop of 4 on yesterdays reported figures.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Simon Coveney has stated that the Government remains on track to move ahead with the removal of Covid-19 restrictions on October 22nd; unless compelling evidence is made available on current rising infection rates, suggesting that this forecast approach should change.

In Northern Ireland, over the past 24 hours another 1,471 cases of the virus have been confirmed.

Their latest hospital figures show there were 347 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals today, down from 368 on Tuesday. There remain currently 33 patients in northern intensive care units, 2 more than Tuesday’s total, with sadly 1 more coronavirus-related death reported.
