Tipperary Fire Victim Named Locally

The man who sadly died in an early-morning, unexplained fire in Roscrea, Co Tipperary, has been named locally as Mr Pat Coonan.

Aged in his 60’s; a popular retired school teacher from the town; Mr Coonan was married with two children.

Neighbours first notified the emergency services at around 4:00am yesterday, after they noticed the fire at his home.

Mr Coonan up until he retired in 2015, had taught English and History as subjects in the local Coláiste Phobal, Roscrea Community College, on Corville Rd. in the town.

A passion for film and theatre; Mr Coonan was a member of the local film club and brought his love of theatre into the classroom.

Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to contact their incident room at Roscrea garda station, Tel: 0505 21700.
