garda crestA male in his mid 20’s has died, following a tragic road crash, close to the village of Poulmucka on the R687 New Inn – Barne Cross (Clonmel) road in Co. Tipperary, in the early afternoon today.

The victim is understood to have lost his life around 1.30pm, when his vehicle left the road on a bad bend, while travelling on the Clonmel side of Poulmucka. It is understood the driver was unaccompanied, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Customary local diversions were put in place, while a technical examination was carried out by Gardaí.

Today’s fatality brings to ten, the number of people killed on Tipperary’s roads so far for just 7 months of this year. This number shows an increase of 6 more deaths, when compared with the 12 month period of 2015. Statistics published recently by the National Road Safety Authority (RSA), indicate that to-date 109 people have lost their lives on Irish roads since the start of 2016.

Presently Gardaí are appealing for persons who may have travelled on this stretch of roadway between 1.00pm and 2.00pm today, to contact them directly at Cahir Garda Station Tel: 052-7445630, or the Garda Confidential Telephone Line Tel: 1800 666 111 or indeed any Garda Station.
