Helicopter Crash On Tipperary Border With Offaly

Heli crashA helicopter pilot in his 50’s was luck to escape when his R 44 Raven helicopter crashed, just before it was due to pick up a newly married couple yesterday.

It is understood that the accident may have been caused when the chopper clipped cables on the Kinnitty to Camdamstown Road,  just beside the school in Kinnitty, Co Offaly, as it came in to land in a nearby field.

The pilot, understood to be from the Roscrea, Co Tipperary, area, escaped comparatively unscathed, following the mid afternoon incident.

The helicopter was scheduled to pick up a newly married couple from a landing site near their Church in Kinnitty and take them to their wedding reception at a Roscrea, Co Tipperary hotel.

The Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) has launched an inquiry.
