 Mr Tom Noone, (Thurles) Reports:

The Credit Unions of Tipperary, in conjunction with Tipperary Libraries, have just announced the 2013 launch of their extremely popular calendar competition, based on the theme “Historic Tipperary.”

This time around, they are seeking entries relating to photographs of areas or scenes which give a taste of the many historical facets of our county, as interpreted by individual entrants. The historical scenes or settings need not necessarily be well known, but the important thing is that they show Tipperary at its best, since the calendars, more than 17,000 of them last year, find their way to Tipperary expatriates all over the world.

In previous years, entry was solely by way of photographs, the best of which were selected for inclusion in the Calendar published and distributed through Credit Union offices and Tipperary Libraries branches throughout the county. But this year, in addition to photographs, the organisers have taken the imaginative step of also accepting entries based on artist sketches or drawings.

In addition to production of the calendar, Tipperary Libraries have also mounted a number of significant exhibitions around the county based on previous years’ entries and aim to continue this promotion of the arts into the future.

Competition Details

Competition details and rules can be found in your local Credit Union or Library branch. Entries are invited from all who have an interest in photographing or sketching the historical aspects of their home place. There is no entry fee and four major prizes, to the value of €1,200, will be awarded, along with framed copies of their work to the winning entrants. At least 36 of the entries will be chosen for publication in the calendar for 2014.

Photographs – maximum of six per entrant – may be submitted electronically in a format which will give a high-resolution end-product to mytipperary@gmail.com . Sketches or drawings should be submitted in hard copy only to your local credit union or branch library, who will also accept your photos in hard copy or on disc in a sealed envelope with your name and address, and marked “Photography Competition 2013.”

Closing date for receipt of entries is September 20th 2013.
