Former Editor Nenagh Guardian Gerry Slevin Dies

TD for Tipperary North, Noel Coonan, has expressed his sympathy at the death of Gerry Slevin, former editor of the Nenagh Guardian.

It was with great sadness that I learnt over the weekend of the passing of Gerry Slevin, former editor of the Nenagh Guardian. Gerry will be remembered by all in Nenagh as an excellent journalist and a pillar of the local community.  Anyone who knew Gerry will agree that he was a hardworking and committed man, who will be greatly missed by the people of Nenagh.  I would like to extend my sympathies to his wife Lily, his children Bryan, Niamh and Laura, and to all of Gerry’s many  friends and extended family,” stated the Fine Gael Deputy.

Gerry Slevin was also a long time member and Honorary President of Nenagh Choral Society. He worked tirelessly over the last 40 years for the development of musicals in Ireland at both a local and national level. This hard work was recognised earlier this year, when Gerry won the ‘Unsung Hero,‘ award at the prestigious AIMS awards in Killarney.

Regular readers of the Guardian will fondly recall Gerry’s “Off the Cuff,” column, which was often memorable and always essential reading. Gerry enjoyed a highly commendable career in journalism, and he played a pivotal role in the Guardian’s pursuit of the issues closest to the heart of the local community in Nenagh.
