I recently applied for back to education allowance and I was onto the citizens advice. I am also entitled to the back to school clothing and footwear allowance scheme. I am 19 and I was wondering how much I am entitled to?

Hi Mary,
Difficult to say. You are dealing with a Government Department who are governed by Unions and not their highly paid supervisors. Contact your local Health Centre or Citizens Advice Centre and confirm that they have received your application. Following that you just have to wait and hope for the best. Sorry we can’t help you further on this matter.

Hi, I am a divorced parent of a 16 year old, she is still in school , I have applied for the back to school allowance in June of this year could you tell me how long it takes to process, as she is due back to school the end of August

Hi Ciara,
Talk to Social Welfare and visit the Thurles Citizens Information Centre in Croke Street, Thurles. Latter have well trained and informed personnel who will happily assist you in your plans – free of charge. Believe me, if in doubt about your entitlements, they are well worth a visit.

I am a 24 year old single mother on social welfare and I am going back to college in September. I am wondering if I can apply for the back to school clothing and footwear allowence for myself?

Hi Sarah, Remember application to the scheme is open only from 1 June to 30 September. If you applied prior to September 30th you are OK. Contact your local health centre or Citizens Advice Centre if you do not hear from them within 14 days.
Remember it will take a number of weeks to process your application in full depending on when you applied. Hope you hear something soon.
